In this episode, LRM's Martin Domoney and Steve Miller sit down for an hour of chat with Alistair and Duncan from Richards Chassis.

Whilst on a mission to collect the bulkhead for Steve's 1984 Ninety project, the boys grab the opportunity to chat to the minds behind the magic of building brand-new chassis' for Land Rovers, the mainframe – literally and figuratively – of many a Land Rover rebuild or restoration.

Richards Chassis' Alistair and Duncan talk through how the business started, where it's heading now and the dos and don'ts of restoring original Series One chassis' rather than replacing them for a new unit – no matter how rotten they are.

Steve manages to shoehorn in a bit of old British classic car talk, and the guys discuss how Land Rover restoration has evolved over the years, and how it's looking stronger than ever.

In this week's episode, Land Rover Monthly editor Martin Domoney sits down with Dan Dew, owner of Land Rover exhaust manufacturer Demand Engineering.

We get an insight into how a general Land Rover and repair business filtered down to an exhaust manufacturer, and finally down to a dedicated company that just makes exhausts for Land Rovers, and how that has grown into the fantastic business it is today.

Dan tells us all about the latest project he didn't need, and how he's planning to use it to take himself, his family and business on as many adventures and to as many Land Rover events as he can this year. There's also a look into Dan's other vehicles, including his Discovery 2 commercial, Range Rover TDV8 and 90, 110 and 130.

He talks about how internet forums forged friendships and helped out with projects, including becoming good mates with long-term LRM contributor Trevor Cuthbert. There's chat about the ideas and plans he had for making a Defender 130 into a horse field poo-picking tool, and how his custom three-way tipper made it onto the cover of the magazine.

Dan recalls his forays into tuning 300Tdi engines, and the importance of exhaust gas temperatures when towing for long periods of time – and how not to turn your cylinder head into a banana.

Greg talks about his current series of features in Land Rover Monthly, in which he travels up and down the country visiting all manner of companies and businesses synonymous with the Land Rover universe.

He explains how he managed to get his job at Land Rover and gives an insight into his fascinating career developing a plethora of special projects during the years he was there, including NAS, 50th Anniversary, 2-millionth Land Rover Defender and the run-out Autobiography, Heritage and Adventure models, followed by the 70th Anniversary Works V8s.

The trio agree on the need to get out and use Land Rovers for how they were intended, and Greg enthuses about some customers of a local firm that go greenlaning in very early Series Is.

An owner of a number of very cool and special Land Rovers over the years, Greg explains how he came to own an old family Defender 90, and the work it needed to bring it back up to scratch, He also debates the fine line between a Land Rover being usable and a collectable...

Greg also explains his involvement in the Revs Restore project, and why getting together with mates to tinker with Land Rovers and go out and about is so important. He also gives some sage advice to a listener who's facing a 700-mile trip to pick up a 110.

In this week's episode, Steve Miller sits down with former Land Rover Monthly magazine editor Patrick Cruywagen to hear his stories of how he made his way to the helm of LRM.

From cooking everyone lunch on a Friday on one of his famous braais, to making early-on mistakes on social media, to the South African way of doing things, Patrick shares some never-heard-before stories of his history with magazines, buying his first Land Rover in the UK and which upgrades he chose for his first Tdi-powered 110.

Pat explains his exploits buying a crispy Disco 2, and the process of importing his beloved "Green Mamba" Defender 110 2.8i petrol from South Africa – to the detriment of Steve's Discovery 1's head gasket.

He recalls his time covering the G4 Challenge, following the athletes and immersing himself in the adventure spirit, and travelling to Moscow to get a feature on a Series Land Rover that went somewhat awry. Then there was the time he had a serious Land Rover crash while in the army...
