George Grassly was running 30K a week and working long days as an accountant in London when he decided to enter the London Marathon. A year and a half later, he crossed the finish line in 2:12:54, winning the mass race and finishing 10th Brit overall.
In this episode, George talks about going from a casual runner to a 200K-a-week athlete while keeping his full-time job, what changed between his 2:21 debut and his 2:12 breakthrough, and why training with faster people was the single biggest unlock. He also takes us inside race day at London, and having to negotiate his way to getting a finisher's medal.
Whether you're chasing a PR or just trying to fit running around a busy life, George's story is proof that your goals might be more realistic than you think.

On this episode of The Marathon Podcast, we have Michael Hartnagel on. He is better know as Daily Mile Project on Instagram, where he is keeping his running streak with his late father.
Ralph Edward Hartnagel III — husband, father, grandpa, teacher, and coach - was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2017. Through over 100 rounds of treatment across a six-year battle, his unwavering attitude became a beacon for everyone around him. His mantra was simple: "Stay Positive."
In 2023, we founded Metastatic Mission to carry on his legacy, spread his "Stay Positive" mantra, and support others battling cancer.

On this episode of The Marathon Podcast one of Tracksmith Stamata's team members is guesting the pod.
From Tracksmith's website:
Maria Luevano-Salazar was born in Mexico, the eighth of nine siblings. Moving with her family to the United States at 13, Maria graduated with an advanced degree in Bilingual Education and is now Vice-President for Mission at a Jesuit Catholic high school.
Married with four children, Maria found running as an adult, running her first sub-four marathon in 2017, and breaking three in 2023 with support from the community at 3Run2.
"I approach running with commitment and consistency, and I also hope to pass that passion along to the next generation. I coach cross country and work to help young athletes—especially girls-find their love for running and a sense of belonging in the sport."
