'I'm not looking for a relationship right now.' 'We're just friends.' 'I want to take things slow.' These are just some of the things men and women say but mean something completely different. In this week's episode the Dope Black Women dissect the most common things that men and women say vs what they really mean.
On Dope Black Chat this week the women discuss whether being transracial is a real concept, as well as the Boycott against Vue Cinema for banning Blue Story.

  • Women: What is Girl Code and Kelechi & Candice vs Clemmie Hooper
Would you ever date a friend's ex? How do you tell your best friend that she's wrong? Are you your friend's biggest cheerleaders? On this week's episode, Leanne, Liv and Shan discuss the unwritten rules of girl code, what girl code actually means to them and whether there are any times where it is acceptable to cross the line.
In this week's Dope Black Chat, the ladies discuss the recent controversy in the Mummy Blogger community between Clemmie Hooper, Kelechi and Candice Brathwaite. It came out the other week that Clemmie had been trolling fellow Mummy bloggers and leaving racist abuse on Candice's page. As a result of Kelechi calling this out, her Instagram account was taken down. To deal with bullies Clemmie became a bully and silenced black women in the process. Together the Dope Black Women discuss this issue, what consequences they think Clemmie should face and what more platforms like Instagram should be doing instead of silencing black voices.

  • Women: Dealing with Microaggressions in the Workplace

'Can I touch your hair?' 'Oh sorry, wrong person.' 'Omg, you're so articulate.' We spend so much of our time at work, and unfortunately, it's not always a safe environment, and these are some of the most common microaggressions we, as black women have to face in the working world.

In this week's episode, Leanne, Liv and Shan discuss bringing their whole selves to work, their experiences of microaggressions, and most importantly how they deal with difficult situations with colleagues.   If you would like to find out more about how you can deal with microaggressions in the workplace, this is a very informative video put together by BBC Ideas.

  • Dads: Do Black People Need to go to Therapy? With Malcolm Phillips

'People who have People Survive.' That's the message that Malcolm Phillips shared with us this week.

In today's episode Marvyn and Darwood speak to the Counselling Programming Lead for Hestia. Hestia is a charity that provides support for people and children in crisis. He has done a lot of work to make therapy more accessible to black people by opening counselling centers in London, developing a black therapy training course and he has also been providing mental health support for the Grenfell survivors since the disaster in 2016.

In this episode they discuss whether black people need therapy, the best way to access black therapists and alternative methods to have a healthy relationship with your mental health.

If you would like more information or are seeking a black therapist, the resources in the episode that were mentioned are:

baatn.org.uk (Black, African, Asian Therapy Network)

ukabpsi.co.uk (UK Association of Black Psychologists)

  • Women: The Dope Playlist and Can Hip Hop be Feminist?
Music is so prominent in black culture and brings us all together at the happiest times of our lives, but also the most difficult times. In this episode Leanne, Liv and Shan share their picks for a Dope playlist - from songs that make them feel empowered, to songs that represent a significant moment in their lives, to songs that people would be surprised that they love (there are some real wildcards in there).
They also dive into hip hop feminism. With the rise of black female MC's in hip hop, such as Cardi B, Nicki Minaj and Doja Cat reclaiming the narrative and owning their sexuality, our Dope Black Women ask the question: 'can hip hop ever be feminist?'
