  • 53: Dads: Falsely accused of rape: "A mans worst nightmare" (Throwback)

The R&B singer Chris Brown filed a false accusation complaint in Paris on Thursday against a woman who accused him of rape last week.

On Tuesday, Mr. Brown was released without charge following questioning by the Paris police over an allegation that he raped a woman at a hotel in the city.

The one-page complaint, submitted by Raphael Chiche, Mr. Brown’s lawyer, asks the Paris Public Prosecutor’s office to investigate the claim as a criminal matter. The charge carries a penalty of five years in prison and a fine of around $50,000. Mr. Chiche did not respond to a request for further comment.

Mr. Brown, 29, was taken into custody on Monday and questioned about an accusation of aggravated rape. A woman filed the complaint with the Paris police on Jan. 18, accusing him of raping her at his hotel after they met at a nightclub.

  • 53: Dads: What's the difference between a Dope Black Dad and a Dad?

Stakes are high because parenting black children in a culture of white supremacy forces us to place too high a price on making sure our children are disciplined and well-behaved. I know that I personally place an extremely high value on children being respectful, well-behaved and submissive to authority figures. I’m fairly sure this isn’t a good thing.

  • 52: Dads: Are you READY to be a dad?
So you find out you have a baby on the way, when a question pops into your head - ‘Am I ready?’ Or even sometimes a statement- ‘I’m not ready!’ If you have experienced this, then you are not alone. At some point the majority of expectant dads have had this thought cross their mind, and yet still go on to be great fathers. These kinds of thoughts just mean that you are aware of the enormity of it all – and it could be argued, this awareness means you will make a fantastic dad!
Having a baby is always a huge life change, and it is completely normal to have one of those ‘what have I done?!’ moments! This is just what your brain does before a major life event, and they don’t come much more major than this.
While these feelings and thoughts are normal, it is also important to think about how you react to them, and gaining understanding of them so you can make choices about how you deal with them is crucial.
There are many possible thoughts and fears which can cross the mind of a newly realised expectant dad and make him wonder if he is ready – so here are some of the key ones:

  • 51: Dads NYC: How black are you at work?
Binna Kandola, a business psychologist who specialises in racism and sexism, argues that offices are prone to a deep-seated racist culture. “There’s a racial hierarchy. It was developed during the course of the slave trade and it’s a hierarchy of human beings. And wherever I looked, whether it was Brazil or north America or Europe – [or] even South Africa where black people are the majority – the hierarchy is always the same. It’s white at the top, black at the bottom, and everybody else in between.
Such prejudices have clear economic consequences. The poverty rate for ethnic minorities is double that of white groups, according to research last year by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, which also noted that workers who were not white were concentrated in low-paid sectors. And that was despite generally higher standards of academic attainment than most white groups.

  • Mums: The mixed race experience.

With ‘mixed ethnicity’ being the fastest growing ethnic group in the last two decades Dope Black Mums explore the realities of both being mixed and raising mixed children. This week the Dope Black Mums are joined by Steph Adjei, a dope white Anglo/Scottish mum raising two mixed children as they discuss identity, fetishising, blending cultures and yes, coping with that hair. A podcast and a half, if we do say so ourselves.

  • 50: Dads: How do we address youth violence?

Serious youth violence is a social emergency and the government needs to get a grip on the problem or more teenagers will die, MPs have said. A report from the home affairs select committee said there was a “serious mismatch” between the government’s diagnosis of the problem and its solutions, and its serious violence strategy lacked leadership and focus. Boris Johnson has promised to hire 20,000 police officers and has appointed a new home secretary, Priti Patel, to deliver his vision for law and order. The committee welcomed more resources for police officers but said more action was needed urgently to improve prevention and early intervention services.

  • Mums: “Do we trust British schools with our Black children?”
To educate or to home educate? That is the question... on this week’s pod anyway! While some of us are counting down the days until we can drop our dope kids back to school, others (actually around 48,000) are avoiding the system altogether and choosing to home educate. Today we’re joined by Deborah and her husband Dwaine who are expert home educators. They open up as to why they and so many other dope black parents are doing it themselves, including our very own co-host Nana-Adwoa.
Should we all consider taking the leap?
Do you think you can educate better than a mainstream school?
Dope Black Mums weigh the pros and cons of home education .
