ON THIS EPISODE
Sarah Gregg talks about her new book “Finding Your Flow: Capture It, Use it and Make it Yours.” She begins by explaining the concept of “Flow” including the history, psychology and popular usages of it. She then goes on to explain how people can harness the concept of Flow to order their consciousness, be fully present in the moment and invest their attention towards the goals that matter most to them. Sarah then shares the 3 core conditions required for Flow to occur, and discusses the “journal system” that she created for finding and optimizing your Flow. She explains her morning routine which includes a gratitude practice, goal setting process, and the technique of “imagery scripting” of her ideal day. She emphasizes the importance of the gratitude practice in controlling your morning mood to start your day, as well as how to reflect positively at night, use self-distancing techniques, and identify your Flow states from the day. She then goes on to explain why Flow is not reliant on external factors, how it is unique to the individual, and how it is rooted in science and psychology. Sarah also takes us behind the scenes of the book writing process and shares how the book deal came about, how she overcame self-doubt, how she structured her research and writing process, and describes the marketing roll out plan for the book. Sarah then shares some travel adventures including her hilarious experience taking the Trans-Siberian railway across Russia into China.

Maijid Moujaled takes us on his journey growing up in Accra, Ghana and moving to the US to study computer science and engineering and work for Yahoo and Imgur before embarking on his entrepreneurial journey. After being denied an H1B visa and being forced to leave the U.S., Maijid explains how he joined the Remote Year program and traveled the world for a year with 50 digital nomads. And while on Remote Year, Maijid tells the story of how he built “Chipper Cash”, a no-fee African cross border payment app together with a business partner from Uganda. He explains the challenges raising investment capital for the project and describes his first major breakthrough of getting accepted to the 500 Startups accelerator, followed by his first investor and eventually his path to raising a $2.4 million seed round. Maijid then talks about how he rapidly scaled Chipper Cash, built systems and processes for a remote-first company, and how he is hiring and managing a distributed team. He then shares his thoughts on an exit strategy, potential competition, and his 10-year vision for Chipper Cash. Maijid also talks about his personal productivity habits, his super simple morning routine, and the #1 thing he does for stress reduction. He then discusses his travel experiences, his love for Brazil, and the primary way he connects with locals when he can’t speak the language. He concludes by recommending his top book, app, podcast and shares his favorite travel destinations.

Diane also talks about her world travel and the way she designs her lifestyle, having been to 40 countries. She explains the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion, and how American’s who qualify can shelter over USD $109,000 of earned income per year while traveling the world and running their businesses remotely. Diane also talks about the dynamics of doing business with her husband Richard, and shares her approach to parenting, including how she adopted and raised her son David who has now also become a business owner.

Sean Tierney starts off by sharing the beginnings of his entrepreneurial tendencies and tells the story of how he made over $1,000 on one sales initiative in 8th grade. He then takes us through his decade long journey as a serial entrepreneur, running party bus and pub crawl companies, raising 750K for his startup Jumpbox, creating a short-sale real estate education company, experimenting with art and music businesses, trying to launch Survival School TV, and running the Lean Start Up Circle in Phoenix Arizona. Sean then explains how he gravitated towards “Intrapreneurship” and ended up taking a job as the Sales Director at Pagely, where he can be very creative and innovative and act with a high degree of autonomy but still be in a salaried position with a paycheck and not have to take the risks associated with entrepreneurship. He talks about the Leviathan system he developed for Pagely and some of the lessons he has learned. He also talks about the key to closing any sale, whether it’s an individual customer or a Fortune 500 company. Sean goes on to talk about how he works remotely as a nomad and shares a story about closing a deal while tethered to his phone driving through a hail storm in Ireland. Sean shares other travel adventures as well, including how he got his paragliding certification in complete white out conditions. Sean also shares his musical background, talks about his love for hip hop, and performs his original song “Blind”. He also talks about his Charity Makeover initiative, Season 2 of his Nomad Podcast, and explains how his Nomad Prep Academy helps people become digital nomads. He also shares his morning routine, productivity habits and explains his concepts of “punching past the board” and “reverse goal planning”.

Nathan Hirsch shares his entrepreneurial journey of founding his first business in his college dorm room buying and selling text books, and explains how he scaled that to sell $25 million on Amazon in the next 6 years. He then explains how, at age 27, he founded FreeUp to help businesses hire pre-vetted virtual assistants and freelancers. He started the business with $5,000 and was able to scale it to $9 million in gross annual revenue in just 3 years. He explains how he was able to enter a crowded marketplace of freelancer platforms and disrupt it by substantially differentiating his value proposition and marketing it in a way that enabled him to scale very quickly. Nathan then goes on to talk about his biggest setbacks, how he overcame them, and what he learned. He gives his top tips for effective hiring and management of large distributed teams, and how to create a peak performance company culture in a remote company. He also talks about how, as an introvert, he taught himself to network and to be the face of the company in podcast interviews and on public speaking stages. He shares his morning routine, his day structure, and his productivity tips, as well as his stress management techniques. He also shares his most influential book, app, and the person he would most like to have dinner with. Nathan concludes with the most important piece of advice (also his biggest business lesson) that he would give to his 18-year-old self if he could go back in time.
