Take Ownership with Gary Maitland | The Performance Principle of Responsibility
Everyone talks about taking ownership.
Very few people stop to ask what it actually requires.
In this conversation, I sit down with professional skills coach Gary Maitland to explore the relationship between responsibility, performance and the decisions that separate people who wait for change from those who create it.
Having worked with professional athletes, national team players and NCAA student-athletes across the NBA pathway, European basketball and some of the world's highest levels of competition, Gary has spent years helping athletes understand that elite performance begins long before game day.
In this episode, you'll discover:
🏀 Why ownership is the foundation of sustained high performance.
🏀 The mindset shifts that separate people who react from those who lead.
🏀 How consistent habits outlast motivation.
🏀 What founders, coaches and leaders can learn from elite sport.
What this conversation really made me question...
We often talk about ownership as though it's a mindset.
But what if it's actually a decision?
Not confidence.
Not motivation.
Simply the willingness to take responsibility for your very next action, regardless of the circumstances.
Whether we're talking about sport, business or life, performance rarely changes because our circumstances improve.
It changes because we stop waiting for circumstances to change first.
That, for me, became the real lesson from this conversation.
