Join me as I sit down with Dr. Hamid Khoja, Ph.D. His newest research is looking at using fibroblast cell therapy to help slow the progression of MS as well as potentially remyelinate and recover previously lost function. This research is still in the very early phases of development, but the results have been promising and exciting, so I wanted to have Dr. Khoja share his research with you!

Dr. Hamid Khoja, is Chief Scientific Officer for FibroBiologics, a biopharmaceutical and regenerative medicine company, where he leads all research, development, and advancement for the pipeline of fibroblast cell therapy candidates. Hamid has more than 25 years of experience as a leader of scientific teams, in the development of cell-based genomic, proteomic, and epigenetics assays, and of tools, protocols, and technologies for use in drug discovery and development as well as clinical diagnostics.

Hamid has served as the Principal Scientist at Covaris, where he led the effort in successfully incorporating their technology into Illumina Next Generation Sequencing protocols, managed external collaborations for product and applications development, and assessed new technologies for acquisition.

Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis is a wonderful, wealth of knowledge for those living with MS! Their website and programs are always growing, and expanding to bring as many helpful tools, resources, and support to the community as possible. And I am proud to say that I’ve been collaborating with Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis for a few years now by offering MS-specific exercise videos and content. Today, I invited Dr. Jonathan White, who is an Overcoming MS medical advisor and event facilitator to share what OMS is and all it has to offer!

Jonathan, more often known as Johnny, lives on the North Coast of Northern Ireland, is married to Jenny and father to Angus and Struan. He went to University of Glasgow Medical School, graduating in 2008 (MBChB). Jonathan completed a further five years of training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (MRCOG). He works at the Causeway Hospital, Coleraine and has a special interest in early pregnancy and recurrent pregnancy loss.

He was diagnosed with RRMS in October 2015, and has been following the Overcoming MS Program ever since.  His interests include the great outdoors, cycling and running (reluctantly), reading, rugby, film and spending time with his family. Dr. White assists Overcoming MS as a medical advisor and event facilitator.

In April 2022 Jonathan was awarded “Doctor of the Year” at the inaugural Northern Ireland Health and Social Care Awards.

On today’s episode, Nitika talks about how thriving with a chronic illness means something different for each person, but thriving is available to all of us. She gives her top tips on how to access a state of thriving while allowing grace on other days. She also talks about her upcoming in person Chronicon event where I’ll be speaking!

Nitika Chopra is a chronic illness advocate & the founder of Chronicon, a media and events company, dedicated to elevating the lives of those living with a chronic illness. Nitika was diagnosed with psoriasis at the age of 10 and psoriatic arthritis at the age of 19 and lived over 17 years of her life being defined by her conditions. In 2010 she decided to take all of the lessons her health journey had taught her and use it to help others with the creation of her online magazine Bella Life. Since the start of her entrepreneurial journey Nitika has hosted her own TV talk show on Z Living called Naturally Beautiful, hosted over 40 events with hundreds of guests in attendance and has created dynamic partnerships with over 150 brands in the wellness space. 

After 10 years in event creation, Nitika launched Chronicon in the fall of 2019, focused on those living with a chronic illness. The event sold out, had over 2,000 livestream viewers, high-level brand sponsors and has been growing ever since. Now, Nitika is excited to announce that Chronicon is expanding online with The Chronicon Community, a new, accessible online space with inspiration, advocacy, and empowerment for chronically ill folks across the globe to connect. Nitika is also the host of The Point of Pain podcast which is available wherever you enjoy your podcasts.

She is considered a subject matter expert in Neurology, Multiple Sclerosis, and Health Disparities. Dr. Williams has over 15 years of experience in the field of Multiple Sclerosis. She received her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology from Emory University in Atlanta, GA, and received her Doctor of Medicine Degree from Morehouse School of Medicine also in Atlanta, Georgia. She completed her Internal Medicine Internship, Neurology Residency, and Multiple Sclerosis Fellowship at Georgia Health Sciences University (formerly MCG) in Augusta, GA, where she received numerous accolades and served as Chief Resident of the Neurology Residency Program.
