Dollar/Yen is off recent highs so far in FY21, while Yen rates have not declined much. Meanwhile, Dollar/Yen basis has widened. Widening pressure is stronger for the belly through the long end of the Dollar/Yen basis curve than for the front end. This suggests that cross-border securities investing flows are mixed locally, not only because of fiscal year related flows from Japanese investors but also because of overseas investor flow.
In today’s episode, MUFG Chief Japan Strategist Takahiro Sekido discusses Yen monetary base, possible triggers for the Yen rates market, cross-border security investment flows in February and March, and the JPY basis response. He also shares his views for Dollar/Yen, Yen basis & Yen rate.
