Take a listen as our Forensic Scientist Marci Adkins from the Kentucky State Police Crime Lab returns to our show, joining former homicide investigator Lt. Matt Brotherton from the Lexington Police Department, and hear exactly how this goes down.

In February 2022, Wendy lost her literal best friend, Angie, to a Domestic Violence murder in Nicholasville Kentucky.  Angie was shot to death by her husband, who turned the gun on himself and died at his own hand.

The thing about True Crime is that it is alluring for so many reasons.  Deciphering case details, maybe even asking ‘what I would do if I was a detective’, are part of a natural human curiosity.  For most enthusiast, there is also the age old battle of wrapping our minds around the why when one human kills another.  What is evil?  But, when it comes to close to home…

Over three episodes, Wendy tells a story that she never in a million years though she would be telling, much less, as a True Crime podcast host.  She does though, and lifts Angie up for people to know, talks about the red flags that we see in domestic violence cases and the helplessness that friends might feel as things spiral downward as they watch.

If you are a victim of any type of domestic violence abuse, get help right                  away.  Your feeling of helplessness, lack of power, hopelessness and  depression were likely cultivated in you by your abuser.  There are answers.  There are strategies.  There is a better way.

On January 3, 1999 the mother of 28 year old Kecia Hughes filed a Missing Person Report in Lexington Kentucky, when she had gone for three days without hearing from her daughter.

That same afternoon, police discovered Kecia deceased in her apartment that she shared with her husband.  She had apparently been deceased for some time.

This is a case that was the tragic culmination of a pattern of abuse, control and anger.  Kecia had told her friends she was going to tell her husband she was leaving him; the most dangerous moment for many victims of domestic violence.

Listen as your host David Lyons, recounts this case that he was assigned to as the lead homicide detective and learn about the suspect, a potentially valuable but failed alibi, jail-house witness statements and the appeals that followed in court.

On May 17, 2015, 38 year old Michael Keith Gorley, a son, a brother and a father, told his mother good bye as he left the house.  Michael never returned home.  He was last seen on Highway 300, or Knob Lick Road, in Stanford Kentucky.

The Murder Police Podcast offers a two-part series on Michael’s missing case, to let people know who Michael is to his family, and to keep hope alive that he will be found.

Michael’s family believes Michael is dead, already erecting a gravestone in the local cemetery and pre-paying for inevitable funeral arrangements.  Michael’s case is particularly frustrating given that there is a witnessed last known location and tight time frame, however, the investigators and family also face a cold silence from people that potentially know what happened to Michael and where he is.
