  • Lori MacVittie of F5 Networks: Who’s in Charge of Automated Security?
“No data center runs on a heterogeneous infrastructure,” MacVittie wrote, “and even within the subset of a single vendor, organizations run multiple models and versions of hardware and software alike.”
So if we can get operators and developers together on the same page (perhaps someone should come up with an acronym for this), then shouldn’t it be feasible that we get security professionals to join in?
“I don’t think there’s a day that goes by where there isn’t some new feature, or concept, or way to do x, y, or z,” MacVittie told Scott Fulton for this latest edition of The New Stack Makers.  “It’s Legos as it was meant to be:  ‘Here’s a box, build whatever you like!’  That’s great, especially in the early days of a technology. . . One of the things that has to happen is, this needs some time to mature before we can get the security folks to say, ‘This is how this is working, and this is what we need to do.’”
Hear more of Lori MacVittie’s thoughts on this matter of the meeting of the three mindsets — dev, sec, and/or ops in this edition of The New Stack Makers.

  • The New Cloud Foundry Container Runtime: Just The Facts
The Cloud Foundry Container Runtime is the new name for Kubo, which is Kubernetes running on BOSH. In today's episode of The New Stack Makers, TNS Founder Alex Williams caught up with Cloud Foundry CTO Chip Childers to learn more about Cloud Foundry's plans for this new runtime, with Childers highlighting how BOSH is serving the needs of today's developers.
Childers went on to note that the Cloud Foundry Container Runtime and application runtime will sit next to one another, allowing for shared identity between Kuberenetes and Cloud Foundry application runtimes.
"I think that what's most important right now is thinking about the developers. What is it that the developer in the enterprise needs? That developer experience is the most important thing bar none in our minds. Everything else floats from that," said Childers, adding that "the Cloud Foundry community looks at it as: Developer team, developer experience, and then down."

  • Kubernetes Co-Founder Brendan Burns: Orchestration Is Becoming A Commodity
In July 2016, one of the co-founders of Kubernetes, Brendan Burns joined Microsoft. Over a time Microsoft became extremely active in the Kubernetes community. A year later in July 2017, Microsoft even joined the Cloud Native Computing Foundation that houses the Kubernetes project.
At DockerCon Europe, 2017, Docker announced they were embracing Kubernetes as an orchestrator along with Docker Swarm. On today's episode of The New Stack Makers conducted at DockerCon, we discussed the widespread adoption of Kubernetes and how it affects the community.
“This layer of the stack should become the boring part of what we build and the tooling that we build on top and things that make developers more productive. That’s the stuff I am really excited about. It’s a great opportunity for all container users across the world to see this focus and collaboration,” said Burns.
