The Nostalgia Pit

We welcome back musician and actor Matt Goodwin into The Pit. He's here to discuss his new record Lights Along the Road which comes out November 13th. With a few singles already out, he was kind enough to allow our audience a EXCLUSIVE sneak peak at one of the songs that is NOT slated to be a single, and thus, will only be out when the record drops.

We also brought back Rob's Reviews and looked at the 2024 film Kung Fu Games starring Matt himself! This movie was released by Tiger Style Media and was the last movie to be filmed on the famous soundstage that was home to the 1997 smash hit Titanic starring Leo DiCaprio & Kate Winslet.

Make sure you check out the film and Matt's music, streaming on all platforms you can find that sort of thing.

And if you enjoy what we're doing here at The Pit and would like to support us further, please go check out our Patreon where you can access our brand new Patreon-exclusive podcast: No5talgia!

That's right! An entire, brand new, Patreon exclusive podcast ONLY for our specialist supporters. Last time we broke down the top 5 sci-fi technologies and this week we take on our top 5 cover songs that are better than the original!

Make sure you sign up for our live watch-a-longs happening every Tuesday throughout 2026 at The Theater Nostalgia! Every other Tuesday is Twin Peaks Tuesdays, mixed with classic films and cartoons. Free to sign up! Links in bio.

Bonus content! We'll be back with Season 7 in September, but in the meantime, we wanted to promote our sister podcast The Franchise Doctors hosted by Aaron Donogh & Rob Snow. Each season, they set out to fix an ailing franchise that has gone astray.

Their first season was on RoboCop and this season we have The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The episode you will be listening to today is episode 1 of season 2 on the 1974 original TCM film. If you like this, make sure you check out the rest of their show, because it is fantastic.

We did it, folks. Another one in the bag... It's the season 6 finale, and that means our time honored tradition: the mailbag. We gathered questions from our listeners and did just what they asked for: answered them.

We talk everything from video game systems to the hollow moon theory and so much more. Plus, some teasers for what is to come in season 7. Thanks for sticking with us all these years!

The final bracket of the season: we talk the oughts. Everything from trucker hats & frosted tips to Napster & the first iPod. But that's not all, of course.

We also discuss flip phones, Homestar Runner, soap shoes, the emo phase, The Sopranos and the Atkins diet to name a few things that connote the 2000s.

This week we welcome in an absolute beast of the independent hip hop scene, the illustrious Curly Castro. One half of Shrapknel, a member of the Wrecking Crew, and co-host of the Call Out Culture Podcast, Castro joins us today to discuss his upcoming record titled Yaphet which will be released September 18 2026.

But that's not all. Being The Nostalgia Pit, we had to talk about comic books, making bootlegs in the 90s & early 00s, reggae riddums, and so much more... Make sure to check out Yaphet when it drops. In the meantime, go check all his past music. You won't be disappointed.

The para-social relationship that with we have with celebrities is perhaps the deepest and strongest with artists. Those who put their emotionality into a consumable product in order for others to take a better peek into the human experience. Art has the capacity to take an emotional situation that largely takes place on a personal level (in our own head) and express it so that others can not only relate to it, but find a tribe of like minded individuals, thus, removing the weight of supposed isolation.

Janis Joplin. Jimi Hendrix. Jim Morrison. Kurt Cobain. There are so many great artists that we lost early, and coincidentally, a handful of notable people died at the same age within a short period of time. That age was of course 27. We decided to learn about the history of the 27 Club, the members, and a few possible explanations. That's right! It's Probin' Time!
