The Nostalgia Pit

Welp! We managed to slip ALL THE WAY into darkness for this one. Just like little Alan Parrish slipped into the jungle some call Jumanji and be stuck there for 26 whole years in total darkness. That's 6894.5 days alone and being hunted... Holy mackerel, how did we not realize how dark this 1995 film starring Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst really was?! It's Probin' Time!

And that's not even the depths of the Pit this week. We also look into a seemingly meaningless name that most people have never come across, only to find the unnecessary honoring of one a man up for the Worst Human All Time award. That man is William S. Harney, an excessively violent racist that took pleasure in being at the forefront of the theft of this land from the indigenous people of this land.

We don't go too deep into details, but still, trigger warning.

Holy nostalgia, Batman! This one is packed to the gills with everything from the turn of the 21st century, including but limited to nu metal, boy bands, SpongeBob, JNCO jeans, TRL, low rise jeans, the dot com bubble, and of course, Y2K.

That's not all of course. We also recap our recent watch of the 1974 cult classic film Zardoz starring Sean Connery, Fleetwood Mac's Rumors, and the highlights from Rob's most recent tour opening for the east coast rap duo ShrapKnel. PLUS: Colin does a Limited Recall on Steven Segal's 1992 hit movie: Under Siege.

Did Paul McCartney ACTUALLY die in 1966 in car crash? Was this the real reason The Beatles grew facial hair?! Maybe it's the reason they stopped touring?!? Drinks w/ Ron takes us through the life, times, and music of arguably the biggest band of all time, and perhaps one of the biggest cover ups ever...

With clues scattered throughout movies, music, interviews, interludes, and more, it could only take a true detective to sleuth the truth out of this one.

This week we welcome the legendary hip hop producer and photodump specialist Blockhead back into the Pit! As it’s been so long since his last appearance, we were absolutely brimming with things to talk about.

So of course, we do a lightweight Song Spelunker into the one and only Ganksta N-I-P, talk more awful pizza, and talk his upcoming project Boatshoes with Brian Ennals. We also talk about trading mixtapes on message boards in the late 90s, and how Blockhead managed to distribute his and Aesop Rock’s music without typical distribution.

And if you enjoy what we are doing here at the Pit and would like to support us further, please check us out our patreon, where you can access our brand new exclusive podcast:

Plus! Rob gives us a very rare double review! A podcast first! Look at us, still doing new things after all these years...

This week welcome in a man that if you’ve come across, you would probably remember. My first impression of Mo was him running the merch booth for a west coast tour for billy woods circa 2015. Why was this a notable event, worthy of a place in the spiderwebs of my longterm memory? Because of course, Mo was selling pickles!

A multi-talented and multi-faceted entrepreneur, we are excited to finally welcome in the wonderful DJ Mo Niklz into the Pit! You may recognize Mo’s name from records by the aforementioned billy woods, Ceschi, and more!

Plus! We’d love to wish a very extra special birthday wish to our very own beloved Throb Snow! HBD you beautiful human man, you!

This week we welcome back in the enigmatic Lt. Headtrip, as well as welcome new guest to the Pitverse producer wizard extraordinaire NortherDraw. We brought the two of them into to talk about their new project titled Unbound Flight, the second volume in the collaborative universe of Trip & Draw.

But besides all the talk of the new project, we had to throw in some nostalgic topics! So of course, we talk Tony Hawk's Pro Skater soundtracks and the cultural impact that rap, skating and video games had on our culture. And that's just the beginning!

This week we welcome in our spleen MADSHROOM MC to breakdown the likes of My Sharona by The Knack. That's right, it's Song Spelunker time! Inspired by a recent episode of Here's the Science: A Bar Rescue Podcast, a song that is largely accepted and never analyzed came to be analyzed.

That's not all of course. We also talked some Twin Peaks and broke down our recent trip to Twede's Cafe, the filming location for the Double R out in North Bend, WA. Plus! The return of Kevin's Culinary Catastrophes!!
