The Nostalgia Pit

This week, we welcome in a very old friend and musical miracle worker, none other than the one and only Ian Hulford. Ian is the wizard behind many a soundwave you’ve heard on this here show, including all of the Something About You project by our resident myna bird Araless, as well as the up and coming Hash Adams project titled futurethought.

But we didn’t bring Ian in to just talk about music! We dive through a treasure trove of nostalgia. Everything from Corey Feldman and his Angels to The Cable Guy to the legacy of Jon Taffer. Plus, we also discover the exact moment we branched timelines and went into quite possibly the shittiest iteration.

And if you enjoy what we are doing here at the Pit and would like to support us further, please check us out our patreon, where we have exclusive extended episodes! Today, we discuss the fibber’s confidence as well as what it would take to become a “real life” superhero.

And just because we're feeling generous, this week's PATREON EXCLUSIVE section is on us! Here's the full episode now.

What do the Wizard of Oz, 9/11 and Ringo Starr all have in common? I’ll give ya three guesses… Go ahead, I can wait... Besides all being subjects on this week’s episode, they are all topics of great controversy, and that’s why we had to bring back Celina Flores to try and break these down with us.

But of course, these ideas are not self contained… We trailed into many subjects topics, everything from the Coreys and some of their less notable works to the musings of a certain famous 20th century poet who turn out to be more influential than he could have dreamed.

Make sure to join us for Twin Peaks Tuesdays! Every other Tuesday all 2026! Link in the description.

After reflecting on our last bracket where we went through @VHSDates and played matchmaker, our resident bracketologist Drinks w/ Ron came up with the perfect solution for the problem of what to do this month.

So: because this wondrous and beautiful account of newly unearthed video personal ads turned out to be a brilliant improv troupe, we decided to discuss hoaxes. And not just any hoaxes, but ones that got us good. Everything from Andy Kaufman to the Blair Witch Project. All that, and more!

Make sure you’re in a sterile environment, because it’s Probin’ Time! That’s right. We at the Pit love to learn about things we grew up with but never knew or understood the origins of. So this week, based on the suggestion of the one and only Troy from the Outsider’s Social Club, we are about to crack one open and sing our hearts out to some karaoke!

Besides learning about the origins, we also travel the world, learning about the effects of this globetrotting trend. Everything from the karaoke world championships in Finland, back to the US to meet Bob & Bev, then all the way into the Philippines to look at the “My Way” killings. All that, and more!

And if you enjoy what we are doing here at the Pit and would like to support us further, please check us out our patreon, where we have exclusive extended episodes! Today, we discuss the legend of Ringo’s hog as well as Snoop Dogg’s greatest song ever.

Welcome to the 6! And this time, it IS Toronto I’m talking about. That’s right, we’re headed north of the border in order to learn a little bit about the little known rougher edges of Canada’s largest city. But to learn about this topic, we needed to become… informed…

So of course, it’s time dive deep way into this one in the only way we know how: Song Spelunker. We’re looking into the 1992 number 1 smash hit Informer by Snow. I know I had some presumptions about the meaning of this song, as well as many curiosities. So lets dig in!

Welcome to the 6! No, we’re not in Toronto, but it’s season 6 of The Nostalgia Pit. We’re back, and better than ever! We’ve got a brand new segment to debut with our newest resident segment host: Celina Flores!

She takes us back to New York City to a mystery wrapped inside an enigma wrapped inside a 550 foot granite windowless skyscraper that is the AT&T Longlines building. Not on any of the tourism lists of must see attractions, we happened to stumble across this brutalist box when walking to the Ghostbuster’s firehouse.

Who would have known that looking into an interesting piece of architecture would have led down such a deep and dark rabbit hole? I certainly didn’t…

Bonus content! We dig into the vault from season 2's Patreon exclusives to give you this lil gem!

We’re going back into the vault! This episode was recorded at the end of 2021, delving into the ebbs and flows of creativity and political overcompensation. We also do some games of would-you-rather, and of course, we ask the absurdly simple question: what is morality?

And make sure you stay tuned until the end, where we will begin releasing a very special project one song at a time: Toxic Crusaders is an unreleased rap album by Rob and myself. We figured 10 years gathering dust was long enough. So stay tuned for track one of six: Radiation (song linked below).

At this time, we want to thank our sponsors StrangeLoop Animation. A brand new visual arts company specializing in 2D traditional animation, the founders of Strangeloop have been supporters of the show since day one. As they are now supporters of our show, we are now supporters of their art, so make sure to go check them out on instagram @strangeloopanimation (all one word).

On the penultimate episode of season 5 here at The Pit, we decided to give y’all one last bracket, and I have to say, this one might be the best yet. Ron really went the extra mile and harvested 18 of the best dating profiles from the instagram page @VHSDates.

If you are unfamiliar with this viral trend, it’s the digitized versions of dating profiles submitted to a dating service from the early nineties. Now, while there may be some controversy around the validity of these clips, the end result is so perfect that it ultimately doesn’t matter. They struck gold.

So of course, we put on our matchmaker hats and try to set up the perfect couple on: The VHS Dating Game! (Part 2 next season, maybe?).
