The narratives that we apply to our dogs is a nice way to define their experience. Dogs do not live in the past or the future, they live in the present moment, and the stories we assign to their lives can sometimes hold us back from seeing them as instinctual animals as opposed to emotional beings. Throw away the story and see who they are in the present moment, take it day-by-day.
