    The Prime Minister announced today that there will be an interest rate cap on "high cost" loans. This is in a bid to stop people getting swamped in debt.The Salvation Army has responded positively to the news. Ronji Tanielu is a Social Policy Advisor with the Salvation Army Social Policy and Parliamentary Unit. He explains there are some downsides.

    Four trainee police officers have been stood down as police investigate claims of misconduct. Two of the investigations are criminal. And there are reports that at least one of the cases involves accusations of indecent assault but Police won't confirm that. Christchurch barrister Kathryn Dalziel specialises in employment law and explains she'd expect the behaviour of Police recruits to be part of their training.

  • Principal "grilled" for months by Police
    Police are defending a four-month investigation into a principal who physically restrained an eight year-old boy in his class and stopped him running away from school. The Tai Tokerau Principals' Association president Pat Newman says the investigation was harrowing and took a severe toll on the principal. The prinicpal of Ruakaka Primary School Marilyn Dunn says teachers are so restricted they can't even break up a fight.

  • Lundy loses appeal
    The court process may not be over yet for Mark Lundy. He's lost an appeal against the conviction for the murders of his wife and young daughter. Lundy was convicted in 2002. Then after the Privy Council overturned his convictions in 2013 he was again found guilty at his retrial in 2015.
