Wallace Chapman and Jesse Mulligan star in the shortest show on radio, where they show they really can make something out of nothing, join them to be part of their delight, or to simply despair. Wallace will also preview what's on The Panel tonight.

The Pre-Panel: Your daily dose of stuff and nonsense

Tonight, on The Panel, Wallace Chapman is joined by panellists Jeremy Elwood and Jo McCarroll. First up, anger seemed to be a common theme between Labour and National's election campaign launches over the weekend. Otago University political analyst Michael Swanson gives his assessment. Then, the boss of New Zealand's largest stadium is calling for more consistently applied penalties for serious misconduct at Kiwi sports events. And this week, new road rules will kick in: motorists will have to leave a minimum distance of 1.5 metres when overtaking a pedestrian, cyclist or horserider. Finally, the Whakatane SPCA is looking for a home for a dog and her 11 puppies, named after two of New Zealand's most beloved sports teams.

Join Wallace for New Zealand's most explosive 30 minutes of politics. He is joined by panellists Fran O'Sullivan, Andrea Vance and Marian Hobbs. First they discuss Nicky Hager's new book - bombshell or fizzer? Then, is the OIA fit for purpose? It's a question summoned by the leak of an Education Ministry meeting where staff are told to keep certain feedback out of their written communication. And are grocery prices shaping up to be one of the defining issues this election year?

The Whip for 23 September 2026

Join Wallace for New Zealand's most explosive 30 minutes of politics. He is joined by panellists Andrew Williams, Guyon Espiner and Jenna Lynch. The discuss the harrowing inquiry into police and Oranga Tamariki's handling of the Tom Phillips case, two new political polls that make the major parties look more like minors, the latest pitches to bring supermarket prices down, and the historic opening of Auckland's City Rail Link.
