A Cautionary on Universal Basic Income: What Do Prime-Age Workless Men Do All Day?

Marge - Commentary made me think of my son in high school making the national honors society. There were very few boy and many more girls.  The pendulum switching and what effect that is having on men today.

Mark - I'm out of work but it's only temporary. Staying home for too long drives me crazy.

Steve – There are plenty of jobs out there. I am a custodian and some people look down on me, but I am proud of what I do.

What do non-working men do all day?

• Andrea - I received unemployment but payed taxes on all of it.
• Men - Men in the workforce: I am 27 and I believe that there is pressure on people to live up to older generations but society has made it acceptable to tap out and not live up to it
• Rick - A lot of people don't feel like their job is very meaningful...especially people of faith.
• Adrian - What really defines success?
• Tom - I am wired to work and love to work and it is really hard not to be at work.
• Joanne - This topic describes my ex-husband. It is in man's nature to put off work for someone else to do.
• Joseph - This is like a two-edge sword. Hopefully there is good that comes out of this. I hope this is a wakeup call for greedy companies. St. Joseph and the dignity of work vs. Satan taking the women out of the home.
• Michelle - I have rented to college students and there is a huge difference between 25 years ago and now. They used to work hard. Now parents are paying for everything and young people spend time playing video games and drinking.
• Dominic - In a lot of ways, modern society does not fit with the true nature of men. We have given up the good of work to play video games.

• Jennifer - Does this study say how many men have chosen to be stay at home dads?
• Michael - There seems to be a mismatch between the ability to advance. A lot of people dropping out of the workforce don't have the family connections to advance.
• Derrick - I have been out of college for 5 years. I think a lot of people use video games as a coping mechanism for mental health.
• Kathy - What I'm not hearing is that a lot of these families are single parent where the dad is out of the picture and not teaching them proper work ethic.
• Mark - I am single and this is why I would say yes to the free money
• Mike - I believe this is all political with all the immigrants coming in. They will take the jobs. We are losing a generation to drugs and alcohol.
• Barbara - My experience as a baby boomer is vastly different than my kids.
• Paul - I m a stay at home dad. We are in very difficult times. Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times.
• Mike - Kids aren't getting a chance to work. We have taken away the core of teaching kids how to work. We have taken away the paper routes, the lawn mowing jobs, etc. Kids don't want to work. Adults want the $18/hour jobs flipping burgers.

• Rebecca - Passage in the Bible about intimacy between couples: 'The woman's body is no longer her own,' etc. We are on baby number 5 and haven't been intimate in 8 months. I don't really want to because I am always tired. What can you tell us to help?
• Denise - Married to a man who is very verbally and emotionally abusive. We haven't been intimate in years. I don't want to have anything to do with him. He moved out of our room. Live in the same house but we live separate lives.
• Patrick - Was doing deliveries for Amazon as an independent contractor and I have to take a pic of myself before I can make deliveries. Kind of creeps me out.
