  • Ep 52. How to Heal with More Joy and Fun with Matthew Parkin

This week on the podcast, I sat down with Matthew Parkin, a professional musician, music teacher, and self-work junkie,  to discuss his journey from professional base player, to online entrepreneur.

Like so many entrepreneurs, Matt’s journey online began at the start of the worldwide shutdown in March 2020.  But it was the dissolving of a multi-decade marriage that really got him set on his own journey of self-discovery. Uncovering early life trauma, and a coping mechanism that did more harm than good, Matt shares how returning to the love of music, first through in-person teaching, then in the shift online has brought him back to the celebration of life and having fun!

With my newfound obsession for all things fun, my journey with Matt began when he taught me how to play the ukulele. And the good news is, he can teach you too! But first, jump in and have a listen!

    • The fun of the ukulele, and why anyone can play it.
    • Matt shares his early life story and how those patterns impacted his life and relationships.
    • The power of self-work.
    • Why anything that takes you away from, or diminishes your relationship with self, has to go, and what that looked like for Matt?
    • How Pam embraced the playing of an instrument on her journey to cultivate more joy in her life.
    • How playing the ukulele is like a meditative practice, and how amazing it is for focus and concentration.
    • How to cultivate more joy and peace in the world, and why Matt loves what he does.
    • When stumbles become gifts, seeing the challenges we experience as opportunities to grow.

  • Episode 47: The Best Way to Get to Know YOU! With Heather Ivany

This week, I had the opportunity to sit down with Heather Ivany, spiritual mentor and yoga akashic teacher. From self-work to motherhood, to helping others transform their lives and over to human rights, this conversation covers the gamut and drops a lot of amazing little nuggets of wisdom and strategies along the way. If you’re looking to take a deeper dive into your own personal development, learning and understanding of yourself, you’re not going to want to miss this episode. Let’s dive in!

    The Spiritual Component

    • Learn to support your emotions. Acknowledge them, understand them and develop your relationship with them.
    • Allow your emotions to have a seat at your table.
    • Recognize the lower-grade emotions that you feel throughout the day.
    • Honor your anger, jealousy, and shame in the same way that you honor your peace, calm, equanimity, joy and happiness.

    Self Discovery

    • Accept who you are throughout the journey of life.
    • Call things exactly how they are.
    • Don’t allow your old stories to shrink you away from the very thing(s) that could be powerful in your life.

    Harnessing Authenticity

    • Be honest with yourself!
    • Acknowledge the things that you’re not good at, so you can begin to improve in those areas.
    • Ask yourself, “have I developed the skill set needed in this area?”
    • Resistance is an opportunity, not a means to quit. It’s an opportunity to look at what you’re not seeing and how you can work at it more fully.

If this episode inspired you in some way, take a screenshot of you listening on your device and post it to your Instagram Stories and tag us, @pamgodboiscoaching and @heather_ivany.

    Seeing Opportunity

    • When you take yourself out of the role of victim and put yourself into a space of opportunity, you’ll realize that you have choices.
    • Putting yourself in a role of being able to see opportunity not only supports your growth and development, it creates a ripple effect of other people around you to make choices for themselves.
    • Be a game-changer!

    Curiosity

    • Curiosity is the gateway to connection.
    • The more you stay curious, the more opportunity presents itself to help you better understand situations, and people.
    • When we dismiss curiosity and we don’t give ourselves permission to be curious, it amplifies separation.

  • Episode 46: One Woman's Journey to Uncovering The Path to Happiness with Jamie Lerner, MSW

This week, I had the opportunity to sit down with Jamie Lerner, therapist, and author. Listen in, as we talk about the pillars of self-love and the impact that it has on our relationships. If you are someone who has struggled to put your own needs first, struggled to be gentle with yourself, or trust yourself or others, this episode is not to be missed. Let’s dive in!

    The Ever-Loving Essence of You

    • The most important relationship that we have, is the one that we have with ourselves.
    • The foundation of all of your relationships, is the connection or lack thereof, with yourself.

    Doing the Work

    • Sit with yourself for a few minutes at the beginning of your day and reflect on what you hear in your mind.
    • Throw yourself on the ground and laugh uncontrollably at the harmful thoughts that tend to shape your mind on a daily basis.
    • Ask yourself, “are those things even true?”
    • Create a new story of the new version of yourself.
    • Redirect yourself inward, not outward.
    • You can shift the course of your life moment by moment, and make choices.

    Changing the Tone

    • Ask yourself, “is it working for me?”
    • Change the tone, one word, phase, or paragraph in your belief system, in order to make a shift in your thoughts and in your life.
    • You don’t have to take a leap, just make a small shift and reframe your thoughts and focus.
    • Turn a negative thought into a positive one. Use it as an opportunity.
    • You’re not a victim to any situation.
    • Take responsibility for yourself.

    Taking the First Step

    • Learn how to nurture and nourish yourself first.
    • Don’t wait for someone to do something for you.
    • Do things for yourself that you wish others would do for you, and do it with love.
    • Little things equate to big things.
    • Ask yourself, “what makes me feel good? What can I do for me at this moment?”
    • Choose something small that will make you feel connected to yourself.
    • Write down two things that make you feel good and put them in your pocket. When you feel stuck, pull them out and give yourself a choice.

    Forming Relationships

    • How we feel about ourselves consciously or unconsciously is how we feel about others.
    • We are constantly projecting how we feel about ourselves and others.

    Self Love

    • What are some things that you appreciate about yourself?
    • What do you adore about yourself? Not what someone else adores about you.
    • Finding things that you like about yourself is where it all starts.
    • There is not enough external validation for anyone to love themselves. It has to be from the inside of loving yourself first.

  • Episode 45: Embrace the Power Within: The Secret to Transformation with Susan Burrell

In today’s episode, I had the pleasure of sitting down with author and podcaster, Susan Burrell. With 25 years of experience helping and guiding women, Susan shares her best-kept secrets to transforming your own life and fully embracing your power. Grab your notepad and a pen, you don’t want to miss these gems!

    Doing the Inner Work

    • Check the wisdom of your heart.
    • Ask yourself a series of questions: What’s the solution? What’s the question? What do I need to know now? What am I supposed to learn here? What have I learned?
    • Transition into a place of neutrality and letting go.
    • Learn how to love yourself more and trust your intuition.

    Taking the First Step

    • Apply spiritual practices like meditating, journaling, becoming better aligned with yourself and doing the things that make you happy and bring peace.

    Community Support

    • Find someone who can guide you through the healing process! Don’t do it alone.
    • Gain support from a counselor, a therapist, a spiritual guide, or a circle of women who you can be vulnerable with.

    Letting Go

    • It’s ok to feel. Find ways to let go of your hurt and anger appropriately. The intention is to get out of it.
    • What you focus on, you become. It’s the law of attraction. Focus on the thing that you want.
    • When you focus on your past, you’re manifesting your past into your future.
    • Who you were is not who you are now. Who you are now has a fresh beginning.
    • Once you have acknowledged and communicated that hurt and pain to someone or have written it down, you then have to close that chapter of your life and put it behind you.

    Living an Empowered Life

    • In order to feel better about yourself, you have to do the inner work.
    • The only way you can build a sustainable change in your life is by doing the work within you.
    • Acknowledge what’s keeping you stuck so you can move forward.
    • Write the story.

    Write the Story

    • Once you get the story out, you can see what you’ve been afraid of or angry about.
    • If there’s anger, usually it’s masking fear and sometimes fear is masking grief that we don’t want to feel.
    • We all have a book in us that is based on our journey, experiences and lessons that we’ve learned along the way.

    The High Vibration of Love

    • Love is the healing agent and connects us.
    • When we’re in love, we feel open, self-expressive, more welcoming to others and kind.
