Kate Werner, PETA UK campaigner talks to Emil Guillermo about the King's ban of foie gras on royal grounds, and PETA's work to stop the importation of the indelicate delicacy to England. She describes the cruelty in the production of foie gras in France.
The KIng is mum on the cruelty of the bearskin caps on his palace guards. PETA has a replacement ready, but it may take an intervention from the new prime minister.

Ingrid Newkirk, president and co-founder of People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), in conversation with Emil Guillermo on the milestone 30th anniversary of the book, "Free The Animals: The Amazing True Story of the Animal Liberation Front In North America."
Newkirk talks about what the group was, how it wasn't PETA, and all the great things done by ordinary people who had the courage to liberate animals from laboratories and research facilities.
Newkirk said that in 30 years, animal rights issues have become the one thing that can bring our divided country together in the name of compassion for animals.

Monkey laundering? It's what happens when U.S. labs will pay premiums for monkeys even if they're on the endangered species list.
PETA's effort to stop the practice got a boost when the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service cracked down on an alleged monkey smuggling ring based in Cambodia this month that was responsible for bringing in thousands of monkeys to labs in the U.S.
An arrest in New York resulted in the unsealing of an indictment listing 8 Asian nationals, including top Cambodian government officials, and principals of a major primate supplier. If convicted the indicted could face up to 20 years in prison and be fined hundreds of thousands of dollars.
PETA began exposing the dark side of monkey importation and laundering in the summer.
Dr. Lisa Jones-Engel, PETA primate expert, talked to podcast host Emil Guillermo in July about how the long-tailed macaque has become endangered by being the prime focus of the monkey smugglers. Jones-Engel describes how they are cruelly treated and how their lives are being wasted in labs in the U.S.

By fighting the Navy on its use of sheep in decompression illness testing, a young animal rights activist has found her calling. Emil Guillermo talks to Shriya Swaminathan, PETA Science Policy Advisor for International Lab Methods about the Navy's cruel decompression sickness testing on sheep. For Swaminathan, leaving her science doctoral program to work for PETA full-time has been the way to put her animal rights beliefs to work.

After a six-year fight, PETA already forced the shutdown of a cruel dog lab at Texas A&M, but the school wouldn't release the remaining dogs.
All that changed last week (Nov. 4) when PETA got assurances from Texas A&M that nine Golden Retrievers--the last remnants of that cruel canine muscular dystrophy lab--will be freed by the end of the year.
Dr.Alka Chandna, PETA VP for Laboratory Investigations talks with Emil Guillermo about how the case was won, and what the victory means in the fight to end animal experimentation.

Plainville Farms in Pennsylvania touted itself as a place that raised "certified humane" turkeys. But a PETA investigator got the truth on video tape: Workers kicking, choking, strangling turkeys. Workers simulating sexual acts with the birds. All in all, the video was enough to get Pennsylvania State Police to get prosecutors in six counties to file the most defendants with the most charges ever in a case of cruelty to factory farmed animals. Dan Paden, PETA VP of Evidence Analysis, breaks down the case in conversation with Emil Guillermo on the PETA podcast.

Dr. Margaret Livingstone at Harvard Medical has continued with experiments on monkeys long thought to have been ended. They include maternal deprivation experiments where baby monkeys are taken from their mothers, have their eyes sewn- shut, then observed for abnormalities.
Science or torture?
PETA neuroscientist Katherine Roe, a one-time NIH scientist, talks to Emil Guillermo about the uselessness of the experiments to science or humanity.

Documenting cruelty in factory farms has been a hallmark of animal rights since PETA started doing it in the early 1990s.
Just this week, a PETA undercover investigation video of the cruelty at Plainville Farm in Pennsylvania enabled the Pennsylvania State Police to charge 11 people with nearly 140 counts of cruelty to animals, including felonies. It is the largest number of charges in any factory-farmed animal case in U.S. history.
As that case begins, a noteworthy case ended in Utah: The trial of Direct Action Everywhere (DXE) activists for felony burglary and theft alleged to have occurred in 2017. While documenting the cruelty at a factory farm, the activists saw two piglets near death and rescued them. Instead of going after the corporate farm interests, prosecutors went after the activists.
Emil Guillermo talked to Jeremy Beckham, a Utah activist who covered the trial from start to finish. Find out how DXE activists Wayne Hsiung and Paul Picklesimer won over a jury and triumphed over Smithfield and factory farming in Utah.
Find out more about the trial. See the "Operation Deathstar" video. All on PETA.org.

Does it make sense that millions of animals must die in regulatory tests in the name of human safety when the results are irrelevant to humans?
That's the reason the PETA Science Consortium International was formed ten years ago--to convince governments and private industries that modern non-animal regulatory test methods were better for humans and infinitely better for animals. Three consortium scientists--Jeff Brown, Gina Hilton, and Bridget Rogers--talk to Emil Guillermo about their to change the world's laws and to save millions of animals' lives.
