Ingrid Newkirk, president and co-founder of People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), in conversation with Emil Guillermo on the milestone 30th anniversary of the book, "Free The Animals: The Amazing True Story of the Animal Liberation Front In North America." Newkirk talks about what the group was, how it wasn't PETA, and all the great things done by ordinary people who had the courage to liberate animals from laboratories and research facilities. Newkirk said that in 30 years, animal rights issues have become the one thing that can bring our divided country together in the name of compassion for animals.

Bhagavan "Doc" Antle, featured in the Netflix series "Tiger King," was arrested earlier this month with four others on ten counts of trafficking wild animals. He also faces additional charges of laundering more than $500,000 in connection with illegal human smuggling from Mexico. Brittany Peet, general counsel of PETA's Captive Animal Law Enforcement is the "Tiger King" expert. She says Antle is out on bond and back at his Myrtle Beach facility that continues to exploit animals. She explains how a difference in approach between Fish and Wildlife and the USDA has allowed Antle to keep profiting from animal cruelty for decades. Peet talks with Emil Guillermo.

Dr. John P. Gluck was honored with PETA's Trailblazing Advocacy Award in 2021 for being a shining example of ethics in science. In this conversation with Emil Guillermo, the one-time animal experimenter, who studied with the infamous Harry Harlow, describes his own transformation from an animal experimenter to a compassionate bioethicist committed to a cruelty-free science.
Gluck's book, "Voracious Science and Vulnerable Animals" has become a guide for scientists, especially of a new generation, seeking to practice a science aligned with their ethical identity.
It hasn't been easy. Gluck admits he remains haunted by the faces of the animals he experimented on.

The fate of 3,000 beagles bred for experimentation is in doubt as this podcast reaches the public.
Envigo, a multi-million dollar supplier of dogs for lab experimentation worldwide, is accused of violations under the Animal Welfare Act after a PETA undercover investigation exposed horrible conditions at Envigo's Virginia facility.
The Department of Justice has sought to close down the facility. But Envigo wants to sell off its remaining 3,000 dogs to labs for experimentation first.
Daphna Nachminovich, PETA Sr. VP for Animal Cruelty explains why that's unacceptable. She wants animal lovers to join PETA in forcing Envigo to give up all the dogs to safe and caring homes.

The Research Modernization Deal, RMD, is a new deal for scientists and animals developed by the scientists at PETA. Intended to change the paradigm on the use of animals in experimentation, RMD is a common-sense strategy necessitated by the 90 percent failure rate of research involving animals to produce anything of value for humans. PETA's Dr.Emily Trunnell with the Laboratory Investigations Department is working with the team trying to make RMD a reality. She tells Emil Guillermo the program is as simple as stopping everything that doesn't work or produce real results and shifting money and emphasis to non-animal experiments that would have a better chance at success. In 1975, philosopher Peter Singer argued for the end of tyranny by human animals over non-human animals. His book "Animal Liberation," has been an ethical compass for several generations of animal rights activists. In this conversation with Emil Guillermo, Singer talks about the changes in the last five decades, how his book helped bring about those changes, and how there's still much work to do to convince society that speciesism is wrong.

By Capt. Paul Watson's count there are 56 orcas being held in concrete prisons. And 163 who have died over the years. After 50 years at sea saving marine mammals, Watson's written a new book that essentially registers all the animals who are currently enslaved by amusement parks like Sea World. He talks about what's being done and how you can help, simply by not going to SeaWorld. In conversation with Emil Guillermo.
Watson's book. co-authored by Tiffany Humphrey is "Orcapedia," published by Groundswell Books.

What's up with the upcharge at Starbucks for vegan milk substitutes? If you want soy, almond, or oat milks, you'll pay a premium. For being kind to animals and the planet? Consumers have been complaining to Starbucks for sometime, but the debate gained momentum when Oscar-winning actor and animal activist James Cromwell stepped up and put his hand to a Starbucks counter with a schmear of Super Glue. It showed his commitment to the issue as he read a statement and brought attention to Starbucks' anti-consumer, anti-climate, anti-cow policy. PETA campaign specialist talks with Emil Guillermo about the Cromwell protest, and the importance of fighting the upcharge.
