For Brett Devloo, known to many as "TBK – The Blind Kid," the answer has never been to stop.

It's been to keep moving forward.

On this episode of The P.H.Y.S Podcast, I sit down with Brett Devloo and Hippie Mike for a powerful conversation about resilience, skateboarding, creativity, community, and the people who help us discover what's possible.

Brett is a visually impaired musician, songwriter, professional skateboarder, and motivational speaker from Aldergrove, British Columbia. His story is one of determination, courage, and refusing to let limitations define his future.

Through music, skateboarding, and public speaking, Brett has built a life centered around possibility rather than restriction. His journey is now being documented in the upcoming film Blind Corners, a project that explores what it means to pursue your dreams when the world constantly underestimates what you're capable of achieving.

Joining Brett is Hippie Mike, a lifelong skateboarder, mentor, community builder, and owner of HMI Skate Park in Hope, British Columbia.

For decades, Mike has dedicated himself to creating spaces where people feel welcomed, supported, and encouraged to grow. Through skateboarding, coaching, and mentorship, he has impacted countless lives, including helping guide and support some of Canada's most respected skateboarders, including Andy Anderson.

What makes a photograph truly unforgettable?

Is it the light? The composition? The moment?

Or is it the connection between the photographer and the person standing in front of the camera?

Christopher “Morty” Mortenson, an editorial and commercial photographer based in Long Beach, California, whose work is built on authenticity, curiosity, and human connection.

Morty's journey began in the rural town of Silver City, New Mexico, where his passion for photography was first inspired by his mother, a Navy photographer. Through her images, he discovered photography's unique ability to preserve stories, evoke emotion, and connect people across time.

After earning his BFA in Photography from New Mexico State University, Morty relocated to Los Angeles and stepped into the creative world as an Art Director for the streetwear brand Quintin Co. That opportunity immersed him in the BMX and skateboarding communities, where he photographed some of the industry's top athletes and developed the visual style that continues to define his work today.

Today, Morty works as a staff photographer for several Southern California publications, including LA Downtown News, Pasadena Weekly, and The Argonaut. His assignments place him face-to-face with artists, entrepreneurs, musicians, and everyday people, each carrying stories worth documenting.

What does it take to swim into some of the most dangerous waves on Earth with a camera in hand?

Christa "C Funk" Funk, one of the world's most respected water photographers and a familiar presence in the lineup at the legendary Banzai Pipeline on Oahu's North Shore.

Known for her breathtaking images captured from deep inside the action, Christa has built a reputation for documenting surfing from perspectives few photographers are willing or able to reach. Whether photographing small, playful days or navigating the chaos of second and third reef Pipeline, she consistently places herself in the heart of the action to create images that reveal the beauty, power, and unpredictability of the ocean.

Her work has been featured by Freesurf Magazine, Surfline, and numerous surf publications and media outlets around the world.

Before becoming a full-time surf photographer, Christa graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy and served aboard the Coast Guard Cutter RUSH in Hawaii. Her background as both a competitive swimmer and Coast Guard officer gave her the skills and confidence necessary to thrive in challenging ocean environments.

Today, she continues to push herself physically and creatively, training relentlessly to handle Pipeline's most demanding conditions while creating photographs that capture both athletic performance and the stories unfolding around it.
