Today’s guest is Christopher Mortenson, though most people know him simply as "Morty", an editorial and commercial photographer based in the creative heart of Long Beach, California.

Morty’s journey began in the small rural town of Silver City, New Mexico, where his passion for photography was sparked at home, inspired by his mother, a Navy photographer whose images showed him the power of storytelling through the lens.

After earning his BFA in Photography from New Mexico State University, Morty made his way to Los Angeles, where he became an Art Director for the streetwear brand Quintin Co.. That opportunity not only gave him creative freedom but also opened doors to capture some of the top athletes in BMX and skateboarding, a fast-paced world that shaped his visual style and sharpened his creative instincts.

Since then, Morty has spent the past decade refining his craft, learning every detail of the art form, from lighting to connection, from technical precision to emotional truth. He’s built a reputation for storytelling that balances head, eye, and heart, echoing the words of Henri Cartier-Bresson: “To make a photograph is to align the head, the eye, and the heart. It is a way of life.”

Today, Morty is a staff photographer for several Los Angeles publications, including LA Downtown News, Pasadena Weekly, and The Argonaut, where his work connects him to artists, entrepreneurs, and everyday Angelinos, each with a story worth telling.

Beyond editorial work, he also runs his wedding and event photography brand, Wedding Crashers Worldwide, known for its warmth, authenticity, and candid storytelling. And when he’s not on assignment, you’ll find Morty exploring new creative territory through large-scale collage projects, continuing to push boundaries and redefine what storytelling can look like through photography.

Today’s guest is Christa Funk better known as "C Funk" one of the world’s leading water photographers, celebrated for her breathtaking images from the legendary Banzai Pipeline. Whether it’s small waves or heavy second and third reef Pipe, Funk is always in the mix, driven by discipline, courage, and her background as a competitive swimmer and Coast Guard officer.

Her work has been featured in Freesurf Magazine, Surfline, and across countless feeds, where her images capture the raw beauty, chaos, and perfection of the ocean. Known for her relentless work ethic, she’s often paddling out before sunrise, staying in the water longer than anyone, and training with hardcore fitness routines to handle the most extreme conditions.

But Christa’s story didn’t begin at Pipeline. Her first brush with photography came in 2003, when a classroom assignment sparked her passion behind the lens. After graduating from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and serving on Coast Guard Cutter RUSH in Hawaii, she discovered surf photography as the perfect combination of her two passions: swimming and shooting. She is a member of the Board of Directors at Focus on the Story, the immediate past president of Women Photojournalists of Washington (WPOW), co-chair of photography at The National Press Club, an Adobe Education Leader, and an adjunct professor at Howard University, her alma mater.

Today’s guest is Marcus Paladino, a professional photographer specializing in cold water surf photography on the rugged west coast of Canada. Based in Tofino, Marcus has built a career capturing high-performance surfing and the wild beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

What began with a diploma in photography in 2010 and a “one summer” trip to Tofino has turned into a lifelong pursuit of documenting the people, waves, and culture at the edge of the world.

Known for his artistic approach and his willingness to chase storms, endure freezing conditions, and even risk equipment in the surf, Marcus transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary. His work has been featured in leading publications such as Surfer, The Surfer’s Journal, Stab Mag, Tracks, Canadian Geographic, Adventure Journal, and Surfline.

Marcus has also collaborated with an impressive roster of global brands, including Hurley, Red Bull, Monster Energy, Rip Curl, Yeti, O’Neill, Vans, Netflix, Arc’teryx, Billabong, RVCA, and Tourism Tofino, to name a few. His images reflect both the grit and the beauty of surfing in cold water, where dedication, resilience, and creativity collide.
