How do you find beauty after spending decades witnessing some of life's most difficult moments?
On this episode of The P.H.Y.S Podcast, I sit down with Joe D'Agostino, a New Jersey-based photographer, writer, police officer, SWAT Team Commander, and advocate for first responder mental health.
Joe's life has been shaped by service, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. For more than 24 years, he has served in law enforcement, working in some of the most demanding environments imaginable, including his role as a SWAT Commander and Law Enforcement Sniper.
Throughout his career, Joe witnessed firsthand the emotional toll that public service can take on first responders. Recognizing the need for greater support, he helped spearhead his department's resiliency program, creating resources and conversations designed to help officers navigate trauma, stress, and the realities of the job.
Alongside his career in law enforcement, Joe discovered something equally important: photography.
What began as a creative pursuit evolved into a powerful form of therapy and self-reflection. Photography offered a different way of seeing the world, allowing him to focus on beauty, connection, and the everyday moments often overlooked in the rush of life.
As a contributing writer for FujiLove Magazine and a published photographer, Joe continues to share both his images and his story, encouraging others to explore creativity as a tool for growth, resilience, and healing.
