Got any Gushers for Gasher?
This week, Autumn Greer and Paddy Smith stop by to talk about the first portion of the climax of The Waste Lands. Instead of finding wise elves and dune buggies in the city of Lud, our ka-tet instead find teeming masses of raiders committing heinous acts beneath the victims of their sacrifices. We're introduced to Gasher, a singularly unpleasant character who breaks up our group by kidnapping Jake. Roland and Oy go after him, while Susannah and Eddie look for the fabled Cradle of Lud, and the fearsome Blaine.

Looking at that cover art, you probably think you can guess the general tone and arc of this episode. You'd be wrong though... Hot off the heels of their biggest success ever, R.E.M. was ready to tour again. And concurrently, Bill Berry gave the band an ultimatum: no more soft acoustic jams. The result was an album that reveled in its confidence, and changed the band into an act that would fill arenas. Problem is, the risks they took didn't always pay off, leaving us with our most inconsistent outing yet.
