We saw the best four teams in the NFL face off yesterday. How far away are the Steelers from any of these teams? Are they even within shouting distance? 

The NFL salary cap is going to jump to $224.8M for next season. Will the Steelers make a splash? The guys looked at some of the Steelers high-cost players and what adjustments they could make to spend more this off-season. Are the Steelers getting their worth out of their big contract players? The guys want to see the Steelers load up in the trenches and yesterday’s games were a good example of how important they are. 

Where does the Joseph Ossai personal foul penalty rank among stupid plays in sports history? Poni said if he was a Steeler he would be looked at as the dumbest player in the city’s history. Chris thinks it’s worse because his own teammates were getting on him for it. Is this worse than the Rashard Mendenhall fumble or the Neil O’Donnell interceptions in the Super Bowl?

Do Bengals fans have a gripe? The officiating took a lot of heat yesterday, especially in the AFC Championship Game which has people using words like “rigged” and “fixed” for the Chiefs to win. Chris didn’t think it was as bad as people believe. Poni was upset about the do-over, even though it didn’t even matter. Poni seemed awfully upset over a lot of judgement calls that didn’t go in favor in Cincinnati. Chris also brought up the DeVonta Smith catch from the NFC title game that did not get reviewed. 

The Cowboys fired Kellen Moore as the team’s offensive coordinator and he got a new job within about 30 minutes. Moore will be the OC for Justin Herbert and the Chargers. Should the Steelers at least consider a respectable name as a consultant, assistant, etc.? Poni doesn’t see the Steelers creating a position to do something similar to what they did with Brian Flores on the defensive side. The guys agreed that the Steelers operation worked best when Mike Tomlin was more of a CEO coach that let his coordinators do their jobs on both sides. Could Davis Webb be a recent player turned coach that could help out a young QB?

Steelers insider Mark Kaboly from The Athletic joined the show. Mark gave his thoughts from the Art Rooney II press conference as he was one of the lucky Pittsburgh media members in attendance. Mark expects it to be status quo going forward because Rooney always says he wants to build the team through the draft. Mark thinks Omar Khan will have more say in this upcoming draft and free agency period than people probably expect. He said Khan was likely cleared by Mike Tomlin and if the head coach didn’t want him as the GM after Kevin Colbert it probably wouldn’t have happened. Mark talked about the offensive line and thinks there should be work done to the left side even if it means moving up a few spots in the draft. Mark said it isn’t a slam dunk that Mitch Trubisky will be back next year even though Rooney seemed to speak highly of the backup QB. 

Who will have the most say-so in the Steelers war room during the draft? Mark Kaboly made it sound like Andy Weidl will put together the draft board then get input from Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin.
