The Pomp And Joe Show

It is absolutely annoying that the Cardinals are good and beating the Pirates, the way they're beating the Pirates. Jeff Hathhorn doesn't think it's too early to add arms. Henry Davis isn't hitting the ball hard and has an average under .170.

Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. The Penguins truly believed they were going to win Wednesday and play Game 7 that the emotions were very difficult. Jeff thinks the series was lost in the second period of Game 3.  The Penguins resting players, plus Rick Tocchet's coaching, all played a factor in the Penguins losing and not finding their game. Jeff Hathhorn anticipates Kris Letang to be back. "Malkin has some people in the organization that love him and some people that would like to go in a different direction."

The Pirates are down 3-0, Paul Skenes has allowed two home runs. Joe is stressed.

The Penguins did not win a 2-1 game all year. Steigy thinks playoff hockey is apples to oranges compared to the regular season. He thinks that Evgeni Malkin wanted to get off the ice against the Flyers when going first in the handshake line. Evgeni Malkin wants to stay. Steigy thinks the Penguins will need to be around the bottom of the standings to build the team with great stars once again.

Art Rooney II said they expect Aaron Rodgers to sign and alerted Aaron that they were using the UFA. Art said in the unlikely event that Rodgers goes somewhere else, the Steelers get a compensatory pick. Art said it was 'not a real big deal.' Why did the Steelers do this deal if they are confident Rodgers is coming back.  The Browns have Watson back as No. 1 on the depth chart.

Are the Pirates only going to be a team that hovers at .500? The Pirates had multiple opportunities this series against St. Louis and have failed to put enough runs on the board in games one and three. Their relief pitching has also been a problem. Joe and Bob think that Chandler needs to refine his arm for better control. Chandler and Marcell Ozuna have been the two players that have let the Pirates down this season. Henry Davis is hitting .161.

The Penguins dug themselves too big of a gap going down 3-0. TK thought it was a tale of two teams when the Penguins changed their line combinations. He doesn't think Game 6 was the final game for the Big 3. TK's theory on where Evgeni Malkin could go if he's not back.

The Penguins season is over after a 1-0 overtime loss to Philadelphia. Joe thinks the better team lost Game 6, but it took the Penguins too long to get into the series and they had no margin for error. Bob thinks the Penguins resting players had a bad impact on the series. Was this a successful season? Arturs Silovs had an incredible Game 6. Will the Big 3 be together for the Penguins next season?

The full Pomp and Joe Show, with Bob Pompeani, Joe Starkey, and Austin Bechtold (behind the glass), from Wednesday, April 29th, 2026

Hour 1 with Bob Pompeani and Joe Starkey: Rest in Peace Ray Goss. . Tonight is Game 6 Penguins-Flyers. The Penguins have had GREAT moments for Game 6. The Steelers placed the UFA tender on Aaron Rodgers. Doug Whaley said this protects the Steelers to get a compensatory pick and added protection for Rodgers to sign with them. Ben Roethlisberger said he thinks Allar had a lot of hype behind him and Allar never jumped off the page to him. He never had a "woah" moment with Allar.
