The Pomp And Joe Show

Pirates reporter John Perrotto joined the show. The Oakland A's are going to play in a minor league ballpark in Sacramento while the new ballpark is built in Las Vegas. A ton of pitchers in the Pirates organization experience a drop in velocity once they make the majors. John blames Oscar Marin and is the logical place to point the finger when players come up and perform worse. John thinks Nick Gonzales lacks what it takes at the plate to be an everyday player and he also plays just ok defense.

Fighting in hockey... There was a line brawl between the Devils and Rangers last night with eight ejections. Calls on the Penguins.

Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette joined the show. College basketball teams don't stick together anymore. Bub Carrington declared for the NBA Draft and Pitt handled it in a specific way to support Bub, highlight him, and help usher in one of Pitt's first draft picks in a while. It's a big loss for Pitt. Bub Carrington having a strong year and potentially being a first-round pick could help with the recruitment of Meleek Thomas.

It's probably a must-win game for the Penguins today against the Capitals. It's old school, vintage Pens-Caps with playoff implications on the line. We hope the stars shine bright.

Matt Capps wants Mitch Keller to use his fastball more. It's one of his top pitches, but Keller only threw it 26% of the time last season with the cutter and sinker right behind. We try to determine what concert we should see as a show this summer.

Mitch Keller is throwing his fastball a mile per hour slower than the last two years. He allowed five runs (four earned) in the Pirates first loss of the season. How concerned should we be with Keller? He has an ERA over five in his last 23 starts.

The full Joe Starkey Show with Joe Starkey and Paul Zeise from Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024

Hour 1 with Joe Starkey and Paul Zeise: Starkey is back after going to Florida to golf and visit Ron. Ron is living his best life with a tan, he's lost 10 pounds, and is stress free. Starkey Six Pack. The Penguins are still alive after rallying back with five goals in the third period to beat New Jersey 6-3. It's a real possibility they could make the playoffs. Bronny James is transferring from USC? LSU-Iowa had 12.3 million viewers, the most watched women's basketball game ever. The great Chase Claypool could be bound for the CFL. Jeff Patton of Baseball Card Castle joined the show. The Pirates are 5-0. Ke'Bryan Hayes 2015 autograph rookie card is the card of the week. He also picked out a Sidney Crosby card.

Hour 2 with Joe Starkey and Paul Zeise: BREAKING: The Buffalo Bills have traded Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans for a 2025 second-round pick. It might be an addition by subtraction for the Bills. Should the Steelers have been interested? Pitt is holding a mysterious press conference at 1 p.m. What could it be for? If it was a negative story, Pitt would only put out a press release. We speculate on if it could include Bub Carrington and/or Jaland Lowe.  Should we buy into the Pirates this season? The lineup is better with Oneil Cruz healthy, Henry Davis, and Ke'Bryan Hayes significantly better. the bullpen isn't even healthy yet.
