The full Joe Starkey Show from Wednesday, February 21, 2024

Starkey Six Pack. The Penguins laid another egg against the Islanders and lost in OT. The Islanders maintained the lead for a large portion of the game before the Penguins stormed back and showed a great sign of life, but it wasn't enough. Winning solves everything for the Pirates. We hear what Rob Rossi had to say about Sidney Crosby being content if Jake Guentzel is traded. Pitt basketball got crushed by Wake Forest in an important game for the NCAA Tournament bubble.  Rob Rossi gives it a 30% chance Jake Guentzel is traded. We hear what he had to say with the PM Team on Tuesday. Jeff Patton of the Baseball Card Castle joined the show. A Paul Skenes 2023 card is Starkey's Card of the Week.

Hour 2 with Joe Starkey: We discuss ideas for the Steelers as alternatives for Kenny Pickett at quarterback, or guys who could step in and be a solid player if Pickett is hurt or struggles. Names discussed: Jacoby Brissett, Sam Darnold, Kirk Cousins, Ryan Tannehill, and Marcus Mariota. We think Justin Fields is the best of all alternatives. Joe Flacco is an interesting option as a backup. Other names thrown out there include Gardner Minshew and Russell Wilson.

Hour 3 with Joe Starkey: Mark Kaboly of The Athletic joined the show for the 12pm hour. Mark discusses the QB options for the Steelers moving forward and thinks Pickett needs legit competition. We don't know how many of the options are realistic, but they should be options. We wonder how Ron is doing and how his life is in Florida. Trey Lance as the next Steelers backup QB? Mark doesn't like Russell Wilson and thinks he's done.

Hour 4 with Joe Starkey: Pirates reporter Kevin Gorman of the Trib joined the show from Bradenton. Oneil Cruz looks ok in spring training so far and working out some kinks. Cruz had to overcome some trust issues with his ankle when sliding. Standing next to Paul Skenes is a commanding presence and needs to work on pitching every five days after being a Friday night starter. He only had to use his fastball and slider at LSU and his changeup wasn't used much in college because it's bat-speed level. Kevin doesn't see Henry Davis starting in Triple-A as a realistic option. Middle infield depth is a place the Pirates can trade from. Messages from the Gerry Dulac chat. Texts in the city.

We go over some of the best questions in Gerry Dulac's chat and read the best texts on the text line with a scale of 1-10.
