I sit down with Austin Reinold from the Just One Outdoors Podcast where they celebrate the outdoors through the lens of divine creation. We get nerdy about hunting, talk about supporting our brothers, and discuss his purpose of serving God.
In this episode, I cover chapters 7-19 of Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. This is the longest section of the book and presents quite a few questions about good, evil, war, and life. We also get to see the character development of Judge Holden and Tobin. The Kid moves in and out of this space only serving to the development of Judge Holden. I hypothesize (not well) the relationship between the three and what we can take from it. I also talk about a tale of fathers and the generational passing down of failure. I hope you enjoy this episode and catch me next Wednesday for section three!
Clint is a Husband, Father, and Entrepreneur who has built a fruitful and fulfilling life. He shares with us his stories of battling through failure to succeed and describes what exactly it's like to watch your own children fail. Clint is a family man and a great role model if you might be in need of one.
Lastly, I want to thank Clint for his patience and understanding with the technical difficulties I had on this episode. He gave me a ton of grace and more importantly his time to finish the podcast.
I cover the first section of Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. This section follows "The Kid" from Tennessee to a jail in Mexico. Along the way, he meets a host of significant characters. The reader quickly encounters the senseless meanness of the Judge when he ruins a Reverend's service. We are ambushed with the uncomfortable hate of the time and forced to reckon with the idea that you can hat and appreciate a character at the same time. We see The Kid's first kill, a squabble over whiskey. Lastly, we encounter a brilliant depiction of massive violence when Comanches decimate the Filibusters. It's a jaw-dropping piece of literature and I try my best to do it justice.
Thank you for being a part of The Purpose Book Club! I hope you are enjoying your read of Blood Meridian and join me for episode 3... It's gonna be good!
I sit down and talk with Ron Holmes, a retired Recon Marine Instructor, Father, and Husband. We discuss his time as a Marine, his bout with Testicular cancer, and leading a family. We also cover Ron's experience as a Vetrepenuar and his innovative new product, the Ryker grip.
Ron gave me an awesome interview and shared years worth of wisdom within this episode.

This is the introductory episode of Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridan. I try to help the listener get into the right headspace to approach this magnificent and violent work of art. I describe the challenges with the book and provide an idea for the density of meaning by breaking down the first page. Lastly, I give my first and final warning to those that can't handle the discomfort that McCarthy's writing purposely delivers. I am super excited to review this book and I hope as a listener it helps you get the most out of your experience.
Milspec Mojo joins The Purpose Podcast to tell his story and share his purpose of saving lives. We dive deep into the necessity of strong male bonds and building a support system of men. Lastly, we cover the importance of finding something you enjoy to aid rehab and repairs, both physical and emotional.
I wrap up my review on Meditations by discussing a theme I found in books 8-12 that I think we can all relate to. At some point, I think we all get to a point when we aren't at peace with ourselves and it mostly has to do with not exercising discipline through a purpose. I cover Marcus' thoughts on the subject and his recommendations on how to pull yourself out of the funk and get after it.
Book 7 of Meditation. I give you the highlights of the chapter and relate the timeless wisdom of Marcus Aurelius to everyday life here in 2023.
Cade and I ponder the essential union. The union of man and woman. We give a comprehensive guide on how to find a woman, how to date a woman, how to make the decision to marry that woman, and what it takes to make that marriage last a lifetime. This is by far one of my favorite episodes to date and something I think every man should hear. Give it a listen!
