Today, we have a special guest joining us, Sam Synett, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Life Coach. Get ready to dive deep into the topic of confidence!

We tackle the big question: what exactly is confidence? Sam breaks it down for us, helping us understand the true essence of this elusive quality. We explore the idea of allowing ourselves to be seen, embracing vulnerability, and stepping into our authentic selves. Confidence is all about owning who we are and valuing our own opinions above those of others.

One thing we can't ignore in this digital age is the impact of social media on our confidence levels. Sam sheds light on how scrolling through picture-perfect posts and how the use of filters can affect our self-esteem and make us feel inadequate. We discuss the effects of comparison, which, is the thief of joy.

But here's the good news: confidence isn't a fixed state. It ebbs and flows, and that's okay. We explore the idea that confidence is a journey, and it's important to approach it with self-compassion. Sam shares valuable insights on how we can cultivate self-compassion and nurture our confidence along the way.

To wrap up the episode, Sam generously provides three crucial and simple tips to improve our confidence. These practical strategies can be easily incorporated into our daily lives, empowering us to boost our self-assurance and embrace the fullness of who we are.

So, if you're ready to dive into the world of confidence, join us for this insightful conversation with Sam Synett. Get ready to redefine what it means to be confident and discover the power of valuing yourself above all else. Let's dive in and take that confident leap together!

Sam shares what she is up to and how she is balancing meeting her own needs and providing the level of care her clients need. Check out her group, The Golden Hour, for more insight on how community with like-minded others can help your confidence.

Sam also shares how she is conducting trauma informed trainings to help ease the impact of the traumatic experience from the pandemic. Stay tuned for more on that topic!

  • #33 Four Tips to Practice Self-Compassion with HPG

On todays minisode, HPG shares four simple tips to practice self-compassion.

Big thanks to Sam Synett, for re-introducing me to Self-Compassion and Dr. Kristen Neff's work!

Self-compassion, as defined by Dr. Kristen Neff: Self-compassion is simply the process of turning compassion inward.  We are kind and understanding rather than harshly self-critical when we fail, make mistakes or feel inadequate.  We give ourselves support and encouragement rather than being cold and judgmental when challenges and difficulty arise in our lives. Research indicates that self-compassion is one of the most powerful sources of coping and resilience we have available to us, radically improving our mental and physical wellbeing. It motivates us to make changes and reach our goals not because we’re inadequate, but because we care and want to be happy. This website offers information about self-compassion, as well as research, guided practices and a way to test your own self-compassion level. It’s a good place to start on your journey of leaning to be more self-compassionate.

  • #44 The Yarn Consolery: Reweaving Your Life with Dana White-Guerrie

On today's episode, we have Dana White-Guerrie from The Yarn Consolery Liv. Dana helps folks reweave the tapestry of their new life by creating a plan to start anew and guide them on their path. The Yarn Consolory helps folks through community building, in groups, education, and collective care. We talk about how people seem to be braver online instead of with the folks they see daily, pressing shame out of the darkness and vulnerability hangovers. We covered more on this episode, and I loved my chat with Dana, and I know you will, too.

Dana White-Guerrie has a Master of Science in Organization Leadership, Leadership, and Management from Regis University, a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications and Organizational Communication, and a Minor in Gender Issues from the Metropolitan State University of Denver. Dana has tried to educate herself about her imposed identities, addictions, and diagnoses. Dana was chased by years of court-ordered and self-imposed therapy. Dana was always looking for more, using countless techniques in order to cure herself.  With the help of a psychiatric team, medication, and her family's loving support, she got sober from alcohol. Then she found IAS, the Zooms, Telegram groups, the Sobertownpodcast.com crew, and the Rewired program –ultimately, these were the catalysts to her awakening.  She has used many programs and tools to find the answers and break free of the trauma(s) within.

  • #43 Just for Today Coaching: Sobriety & Recovery with Bill Lindala

Guest, Bill Lindala and HPG discuss Just for Today Coaching. Bill shares a bit of his story about sobriety and recovery. We discuss why he founded his organization. Bill touches on his podcast with his co-host, Mike. He shares his experience with AA, the 12 steps, and his coaching approach with folks who need support getting sober and into recovery.

You will hear some great metaphors and gain some inspiration and insight.

Bill talks about Coaching Services Group, a collaboration with 8 other mental health professionals that I am very excited to be a part of.

Bill has been sober since April 18, 2010, and it wasn't a choice, it was a necessity.  With the help of many people and daily work, he was able to get sober and stay sober and his goal is to assist others on their journey.

He was raised through a 12-step program and still practices those principles today, but he also understands that it's not the only path.

Whether your goal is a 12-step recovery, being alcohol-free, or just finding the freedom from substances, we can help.  Regardless of what path you are on, the solution is the same.
