As cabin crew are required to be able to react quickly in emergency situations on the aircraft, they are always on the lookout for something out of the ordinary. Whether that is a passenger who has had too much alcohol, a passenger acting suspiciously, someone who may be feeling unwell, or even something wrong with the aircraft. Flight attendants are always vigilant and ready to deal with anything thrown at them. Just perhaps not more than one emergency on the same flight!
In today's true story, we hear of one incredible crew member, who helped save the life of not just one person, but perhaps the whole airplane!

I'm not even sure where to start with the synopsis of this one.... It's a story so unbelievable that our poor writer has a very questionable search history since researching for this one.
A cabin crew member is happy with her glamorous life, and glamorous sugar daddy boyfriend who spoils her with gifts. Until the day she wakes up feeling terrible and makes a horrific discovery.

It's been nearly 19 years to the day since we have had restrictions on taking liquids through onto the aircraft. Almost 2 decades of decanting our toiletries into small containers, of getting held up because we forgot to empty our water bottles, and countless expensive bottles of perfume have no doubt been confiscated. For pilots and flight attendants, it changed the way we work!
Do you remember why though? It's something we are so used to now that many of us don't remember what led us to that place. And it all started in the UK. A local terrorist plot that had consequences worldwide and changed aviation and travel forever.
In today's episode of The Red Eye, we have a dramatization of the events of that day. The day that the liquids were banned on planes.

Most pilots are incredibly upstanding people. They have a very serious job that has taken years of training and discipline. But they do also need to be good with people. Working as a team is crucial for both safety reasons, and for a smooth trip with colleagues when you reach your destination.
So when we were told this true story of a pilot causing scandal and upset whilst down route in Jamaica, we couldn't believe that he'd gotten through the recruitment process without someone spotting that he was a total liability!

It's crazy when you think about it, but every pilot must have their first ever flight with passengers on. We will never know about it, but up the front that rookie pilot with a handful of flying hours in their pocket will be sweating, nervous and then haul a whopping great aircraft into the air with real live people on it. They suddenly have the lives of lots of people in their hands! Crazy right?!
We got the chance to chat with a brave pilot who was surprisingly happy to share his first experience - which was nearly his last! We're very grateful that the mistake was discovered in time, and we bet the passengers are better off being none the wiser!

Being an airline pilot comes with lots of perks. Travel, respect, adventure. You may also sometimes get you rpick of where you fly - particularly if it's your last flight before retiring.
In today's episode of The Red Eye Podcast, we hear the true story of one captain, who decided to use this privilege... and he had all of the worst crew members he had flown with in mind when doing so!

TW - Parachute Jump fails!
On today's episode of The Red Eye Podcast, we take a slight diversion away from the tales of cabin crew and pilots on board the aircraft, to talk to someone who actively chose to jump out of an airplane!
Skydiving is a popular hobby for many who like the thrills and adrenaline rush of jumping, and the incredible views of our beautiful planet as they descend. But what happens when the parachute that is meant to keep you alive as you fall to Earth, fails?
We're talking to Justin Davies, who on one of his first solo parachute jumps suffered from a mishap with his canopy, leading him to come crashing down to the ground without a soft landing. Here about what happened on the day, and how he felt when he realised he was going to hit without a parachute!

One of the skills that Flight Attendants spend the most time training for, is the one you don't see very often! And thank goodness. Cabin Crew are trained in dealing with big emergencies, like plane crashes, where there may be multiple casualties. They're also trained in triage and giving emergency medical care for these big incidents.
Here at The Red Eye, we hear more stories of the crew using those life-saving skill off the aircraft instead of on it. And this is one of those stories!
When 3 crew, headed for a fun trip in LA, become the first on the scene of a major road traffic accident, their emergency skills training kicks in, and they set about saving lives till the paramedics can take over...
