Moving abroad is a big deal! Many times we do it for better opportunities, for education, for our careers, for love, for our children, or for a different life experience. Sometimes being financially prepared is an afterthought in the migration journey, but it shouldn't be. In this episode, I share 7 things to do to prepare your finances as you move abroad. These include:

1. Having a timeline
2. Saving for the move (how much should you save)
3. Taking care of your finances/investments in your home country
4. Looking into your taxes
5. Knowing your work options once you move, and so much more.

Too many of us start off on the wrong foot when it comes to building our credit. Whatever your credit is today, know that you can take steps towards a better credit score. In this episode, I share 5 ways to improve your credit score today:

1. Payment history
2. Credit utilization
3. Keeping your oldest credit cards
4. Using a secured credit card
5. Having a mix of credit types (mortgage, loans, car loans, mortgage types)
6. Being added as an authorized user on another card (Bonus)

My ultimate goal is to be in a position where I don't need credit. But until then, here's to improving but not obsessing over credit scores.

It's the first episode of 2021 and it is the day after the US just gained its first female, first black, first asian, Vice President. Madam VP Kamala Harris. I did not plan to record the episode on this historic day but I'm so glad it worked out this way. A Rich Immigrant is in THE White House!!!

In continuing with this season's theme around money and relationships, we're tackling the discussion around lending to family. Many experts say not to mix money and family, but is this practical for most? Especially for immigrant families? Probably not. I share examples for times where I've borrowed from family and I also shared an experience where I had to turn down a family members' request for a loan

In this episode, I cover  5 Things To Consider In Making Your Decision:
1. Know your family and the specific family member in question
2. Save Yourself first
3. Don't lend more than you can lose
4. Ask questions, but when you say yes, don't attempt to control
5. Have the conversation.

Knowing that some situations may go awry, I wrap up this episode with tips on what to do if a family member does not pay a loan back, and what to do if you've never been asked for a loan.

Today on the podcasts my very first guests are Korma and Jonny Stuckmayer. They paid off $75k in debt while paying for a wedding and dealing with Korma being unemployed for about half of that journey. They paid off the debt in just under two years!
