  • 126: The August Challenge - Honor Your Word To Yourself

    Send us Fan Mail

This episode of the podcast is not what I'd initially planned, but I get this feeling that it is what we need. In this episode:

I invite you to join me on this challenge this month to honour your word to yourself. Too often, we normalize casually breaking promises to ourselves ever so casually. IVer time, we start to believe that our own word doesnt mean much.

Self-trust is built one promise at a time. When you honor your word to yourself, something subtle but powerful shifts.

Join me in this challenge this month. Decide what word you'll honour all month and then let's do it together. One day at a time! Brick by brick!

And if you mess up? Don't quit! Try again the very next day! I'm rooting for you in all ways, always!

    Send us Fan Mail

What does it look like to be redefining success on your own terms and to be way ahead financially while in your twenties? Meet Tobi Derin. In this episode, I sit down with Tobi Derin, an immigrant who moved to Canada at age 16, pivoted from Engineering to Tech, bought her first investment property at 25, and quit her 6-figure tech job to take a year-long career break/sabbatical at 27!

    Tune in to hear

    • How she became financially aware relatively early
    • How she started saving and investing while in University
    • How she realized that owning real estate was a possibility for her as an immigrant and the importance of seeing what is possible
    • Why she bought the kind of property she ended up with and in the location she chose
    • Realizing something needed to change and facing that truth especially as a high achieving high performer
    • Quitting her 6-figure tech job and how she is funding her year-long break
    • How the sabbatical/career break is going
    • What she has learned from the journey so far
    • A message for anyone wondering if this is even remotely a possibility for them

Its time to rethink what success really means. Hit play, and join the conversation.

Tobi is a content creator, real estate investor, and tech professional currently on a career break. After moving to Canada for university and earning a degree in Aerospace Engineering, she began sharing online, creating resources to help other immigrants navigate life in a new country and build financial stability. Over the past five years, her content has helped thousands of immigrants thrive in Canada.

Tobi transitioned from engineering into tech where she went on to work as a Product Manager. Along the way, she continued sharing her journey to help others break into tech, access high-paying opportunities and grow in their career.

At 27, she made the bold decision to step away from her six-figure role to take a career break and redesign life on her own terms. Today, she creates content at the intersection of career, money, and real estate, with a long-standing mission to help people, especially immigrants, make smart money moves and build lives they truly desire.

She creates  content to help people thrive in their careers, become financially literate, and build wealth through real estate. She recently launched 1:1 sessions

  • 120: How To Automate Your Finances

    Send us Fan Mail

I promised a follow up episode to describe the process of automating your finances as automation is central to a good paycheck routine.

Automation takes away the guesswork out of managing your finances. That means no fees, and no mistaken balling out, and you get to pay yourself first via saving and investing. In this episode, I share the key steps to automating your finances including:

    1. Mapping out on paper where your money will go
    2. Mapping out how much will go into each bucket every month
    3. Set up the first level with your employer
    4. Then set up the rest of the savings and investing automation by linking your accounts and setting up the automated payments
    5. Set up automating your fixed payments
    6. Do You Have to automate everything? I'd say about 80% automated and 20% manual.
