In today's episode I have a conversation with Judy Holland. Judy recently released a book called, HappiNest: Finding fulfillment when your kids leave home. It's a challenging time for everyone, and today we discuss strategies, as Judy shares her insight as we take on the empty nest phase of life.
Judy Holland has been a journalist for more than 30 years, having spent 13 years in the Washington Bureau of Hearst Newspapers, where she was national editor, preparing stories for 600 newspapers over The New York Times wire. The Grown & Flown community is something I have been a part of for years. Mary Dell Harrington and Lisa Heffernan has done an incredible job of building this community and have published a book that needs to adorn the shelf of any parent of teens, or young adults. It is a handbook and reference guide that answers all those parenting questions that stop us in our tracks, or simply make us think, "Is anyone else having SAT and ACT prep anxiety like my kid?" or "Are any of you struggling with anxiety with your teen?"
In this episode we talk about:
5:07 How did Grown & Flown got started
9:00 The formation of the FB Group and community
14:30 Top topics for teens and young adults and how you bring in experts to discuss
17:40 The powerful stories of the community helping others
24:1 How do your kids view you since your book launch and the success of G & F
28:21 The importance of mentors along the way
32:16 What advice would you give your 30 year old self

You've proven you're brave. You cannonballed into one chapter of your life and showed up fully — for your family, your career, your community, everyone who needed you. You did that. And it…
Now you're asking a different question.
Not how do I do more? But does this still fit?
Welcome to The Right-Sized Life with Amy Schmidt — the podcast for women who are done maintaining the old life and ready to build the true one.
Every episode, Amy brings the honest conversation you've been waiting for — the one that sounds less like a self-help seminar and more like a glass of wine with your wisest friend. Real stories. Practical frameworks. Permission to let go of what no longer fits and make room for what actually does.
Because a right-sized life isn't about having less.
It's about having what fits — so when the moments that matter arrive, you are actually there for them.
Amy Schmidt is the founder of Fearlessly Facing Fifty, bestselling author of CANNONBALL! Fearlessly Facing Midlife and Beyond and the forthcoming The Right-Sized Life, TEDx speaker, and one of the most trusted voices in midlife women's media.
Go forth and live aligned. 🤍
