This episode features Dr. Jay Patel, here to talk with us about his recent publication in Critical Care Medicine entitled Casting Light on the Necessary, Expansive, and Evolving Role of the Critical Care Dietitian: An Essential Member of the Critical Care Team. This manuscript was written in response to a very controversial article published recently where the critical care interdisciplinary team of the future did not include the role of the registered dietitian nutritionist. Dr. Patel currently serves as an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There, he cares for critically ill patients in the medical ICU, impart education to learners of all levels, and conducts research to identify best critical care nutrition practices, with an emphasis in the septic shock population. Dr. Patel is also well known and well respected in nutrition support circles, and is an active member of the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.
