We live in "the upside down" - a world where a Democrat (Senator Jon Ossoff) goes to the US-Mexico border to call out the other party for its inaction on immigration policy and a world where the "law & order party" is led by a convicted felon defended breathlessly by most of the members of said party.

Rep. Lucy McBath was asked if she's much interest or given much thought to running for governor yesterday on WABE's "Politically Georgia" podcast. Hear her response & my thoughts on such a path for her.

Our paying tribute to lives lost in honor of our nation's defense on Memorial Day was joined by disparate tones from both the former President (who calls war veterans and POWs "suckers and losers") and current President. Forgive me if I openly wonder how conservatives lost their way and got us all to this point.

I happen to think having Atlantan Chase Oliver on the presidential ballot as the Libertarian party candidate this November takes Georgia off the table for Biden/Harris. Hear why I believe the actions of Mayor Andre Dickens and the majority on Atlanta's city council have cost the President a key chunk of the state's grassroots liberal activists' support.

I spoke with Mishael White, aiming to represent district 81 in the Georgia House, today. He's up against a MAGA ne'er do well named Noelle Kahaian, whose platform consists of Trumpian platitudes but little substantively to address any state legislative goals for the district. White, on the other hand, had plenty to discuss with me by way of tangible solutions for his district.

Yesterday's guest, Seth Taylor, revealed one potential "GOP plant" disguised as a Democrat who won the party's Congressional primary for the 11th Congressional district. I spoke of two others in Oconee County, but wait: there's more.

Seth Taylor, a Fulton County Democratic Party captain and 2024 DNC delegate "outed" 11th Congressional district Democratic Party nominee Katy Stamper as a "GOP plant." If she isn't, she's at the very least an anti-trans "secure the border" moderate. Then again, she lives in Cherokee County, where a school board vice chair is also openly anti-trans and nothing was done about that ,so ...

While discussing the Cherokee School Board, Seth pointed to a 2022 story in Pro Publica where another primary winner, Republican Noelle Kahaian, was instrumental in running off that school system's hired-but-never-employed DEI candidate. At least they're consistent.

Oh ,and what of the two Oconee County "Democrats" (who aren't) running for county-level offices? Do local ad state Dems need to do a better job vetting (or finding) candidates?

Lastly, Chase Oliver - and not RFK Jr. nor Donald Trump - secured the Libertarian party's Presidential nomination over The weekend, and I happen to think that's bad news for Biden/Harris in Georgia, at minimum. He's under 40 (37), gay, pro-choice, pro-pot, pro-"ceasefire now" oh and anti-"Cop City". Good luck convincing me that combination doesn't win over some of the same grassroots activists Democrats usually rely on.

This conversation originally aired July of 2023, after I'd read a piece in the Washington Post about a Hartwell, Georgia baptist preacher who was bucking the Southern Baptist Convention (the church has since left that organization) and welcoming all who sought to worship there.

He's (several times now) offered prayer at Hartwell's annual pride celebration, and welcomes with a message of acceptance for everyone seeking refuge to worship.

After weeks, now, of Harrison Butler-talk, it's ironic Grant reached out to me last night and sent a photo from this year's Hartwell pride with the message that read: "Hey Ron just wanted to share a picture from this years pride in Hartwell…we had about 20-25 from the church to attend this year to support. We fully left the southern Baptist Convention..instead of open doors we just took them off..hope you are doing well and thanks again for having me on the show with you…hope you are doing well."

All my years in radio broadcasting taught me that low-yield responses made for garbage data to make decisions off of, so maybe Tuesday's super-low turnout means "disregard it," but I'm joined today by Andrew Heaton, political strategist with Sagamore Hill Consulting, to discuss what to (and not to) make of the results anyway.

I got a little heat for opting to "shrug off" Harrison Butker and my outrage for his 19th century commencement speech, but I'm actually very much in line with the women of "The View," too so forgive me if I choose to believe I'm not "with women" just because I think people are amplifying a message undeserving of this much attention.

Also, while the right is feigning indignation at the potential (there is none) of Butker being "cancelled," Jon Stewart at "The Daily Show" deftly points out who the BIGGEST "cancel" caller is. He's a large, loud, orange-hued fella.

Count me among those who have doubts Georgia's Tuesday primary results are much of a "bellwether" for expectations in November. For the most part, incumbents prevailed, save for a couple here or there who fell to primary opponents. One, in particular, Rep. Teri Anulewicz, lost to a Democratic Socialist millennial named Gabriel Sanchez. Hear some of his lingo and you may come away thinking "wow; a liberal who's talking about issues the average American is dealing with? How refreshing." I sure did.

Samuel Alito has more flags than the theme park in South Cobb, apparently, and it has folks wondering why he isn't recusing himself from any Trump-related matters. Me, too.

All this social media oxygen for an NFL field goal kicker didn't translate to the polls yesterday for a pro-choice candidate, which was sort of my point: stop obsessing over a distraction, America, and get involved in a pivotal election year.

Meanwhile, in Cobb County, Courier reporter Rebecca Gaunt continues keeping an eye on the hyper-partisan antics of the Cobb Board of Education - including use of the school district's social media accounts to politick and it's re-affirming the employment of a member of a hate group to its staff.

I've my issues with Rachel Maddow having Fani Willis on the night before a primary, but the lead-up was another work of brilliance, so I reviewed it (with a little chime-in on my part).

Lastly, why's the former President of the United States regurgitating Nazi-esque propaganda on his social media account? Why are we even asking, really? The excuse (you know the unnamed staffer shtick) doesn't hold up, either. Hear how I know that.

President Joe Biden chose to make a weekend of it in the ATL - extending his visit by swooping in a day earlier (with that artery-clogging motorcade, no less) to hobnob with voters at a handful of Saturday events before his Morehouse commencement speech.

Before giving you that audio, I also want to share the quips of local conservative pundit Janelle King - a black conservative with her own podcast who appears frequently on a FOX 5/WAGA-TV's "The Georgia Gang."

Why?

Because I'll never not enjoy pointing out when a conservative pundit lies or lies by ommission. In this case, she tries to elicit dismissiveness when the President (rightly) points out biases & impediments that still exist. She also tried to give former President Donald Trump credit for a boost in HBCU funding, but in fact, he (four times!!!) sought to cut HBCU funding, but Congress sent him bills with funding bososts instead. We've covered this before, here, and again cite Walter Kimbrough's excellent reporting on that.

Oh, also there was the President's address at Morehouse College's 2024 commencement.

'Atlanta Voice' editor-in-chief Donnell Suggs joined me today to weigh in on the mindset of the black male vote, after I'd asked him (via text) if he'd read a piece in the AJC today that asked that question (by of course sitting in a barber shop to find out). Incidentally, we're learning now that POTUS plans to meet with black voters prior to his commencement visit.

While we were on, we discussed what can be expected for President Joe Biden at Morehouse when he gives their commencement address Sunday. Donnell points out that HBCU's have managed to mostly stay above the fray - Morehouse, for example, allowing for "speak outs" without heated clashes (or police presence being needed).

While Harrison Butker's misogynistic, anti-gay commencement address is still fresh in our minds, it's noteworthy (as Page Six noted) that his mother is a highly-respected and accomplished Emory physicist, and not a homemaker.

The first presidential debate is set - and to be held in Atlanta at CNN. Who needs a whole messy convention, anyway, right?

Jay Bookman (wisely) asked: "Why can governors appoint justices based on their ideology, but voters can’t?"

Georgia Republicans are pushing for a Hank Aaron statue in Statuary Hall. They couldn't agree on John Lewis, but Aaron, they're all for. Problem is, neither Aaron nor Lewis are from Georgia, originally. Is that an issue?

Lastly, before POTUS swoops into town Sunday to give the Morehouse commencement, he spent time with "Big Tigger" on V-103. Also, Morehouse' president was on NPR telling us how he'd shut the whole thing down if necessary.
