Governor Brian Kemp and Georgia Republicans may be about the most stubborn(ly wrong) politicians known to man. They run one of only ten states still not to expand Medicaid, and insist their idea (Georgia Pathways) is superior in drawing down the number of uninsured in the state. The only problem is, they're (again) wrong about it, and their insistence on sticking to their plan is deadly for those uninsured North Carolina's data vs. Georgia's is embarrassing. Also 'work requirements' don't work.

Then there's these same politicians' stubbornness on school vouchers. Yep, that bill awaits the governor's eager signature, now, too, but columnist Jay Bookman warns that it's just the beginning.

A perfectly well-meaning bill introduced by freshman Rep. Omari Crawford passed out of the Georgia House and went into yesterday's Senate education subcommittee hearing, where five ultra-right wing measures - some explicitly anti-LGBTQIA+ - were attached to it. Hear Crawford present his bill, ask that only it be considered (it wouldn't be) and then hear Sen. Clint Dixon pile on the "red meat" that couldn't get out of Senate Rules committee already. All these GOP measures are backed by Lt. Governor Burt Jones - an announced gubernatorial candidate for the 2026 cycle, incidentally.

Hear Senators Elena Parent and Sonya Halpern skewer this nonsense. Then I'm joined by Jeff Graham, executive director at Georgia Equality for reaction and their planned on-site response at the gold dome.

While Laken Riley's mom and stepfather cozied up to Donald Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene, a somber biological father - Jason Riley - emerged via an interview with NBC News that show us a heartbroken man disgusted that his daughter's murder has been politicized. Meanwhile, the local newspaper sought feedback from Georgia sheriffs and they're not thrilled with the predicament state GOP lawmakers are putting them in with ill-conceived immigration laws they say overburden already stretched-thin jail & law enforcement agencies. Their responses also show, quite glaringly, how I.C.E. needing better funding to better do its job at the federal level is pretty clear to see. If only there were bipartisan support for legislation that would address that, right?

As promised yesterday, I reconnected with my former radio co-host (and current realtor) Mackenzie Crabtree to catch up & react to the N.A.R. settlement and poor media coverage of it, and guess as to what's next for residential real estate in the U.S.

There are SO many moments easy to recount all the ways Donald Trump has used violent rhetoric that it's mystifying to me why mainstream media and the Biden/Harris re-election team have sought to frame Trump's rambling auto industry diatribe as a continued incitement of political violence. It's not, and we need to instead focus on substantive stories that should be garnering far more of our attention. Like the tariffs he spoke in that now-infamous quip, or his own Vice President balking at endorsing him.

The mainstream media's done a rather poor job, as well, relaying the National Association of Realtors' proposed settlement, and - since I'm also a realtor - I thought I'd provide some perspective, background and clarity to the situation.

BREAKING: Judge Scott McAfee renders a verdict on the Fulton DA disqualification attempt, giving Fani Willis the decision to either recuse herself and her entire office or have special prosecutor Nathan Wade step aside.

Superior court judge Scott McAfee did what teachers used to do to students who didn't show their work; he returned six indictments against Donald Trump & some of his co-conspirators because the Fulton County district attorney's office didn't specify what Georgia or US Constitutional statutes the defendants allegedly violated. Unforced error or a willful attempt to be vague to make defense's work more difficult?

Oh, good news: Atlanta's now the sixth-largest US metropolitan area - but we're not really ready for such a lofty distinction, are we?

The 2023 session's doomed school voucher bill (SB233) is back and on it's way to passage this time, but Rep. Lydia Glaize and Rep. Doreen Carter exposed this sham bill for what it is.

Atlanta's getting a "stitch," but will liberal NIMBY's derail light rail?

Leading up to today's presidential primary in Georgia, I offer up Dr. Jill and President Joe Biden's visit to Pullman Yards last weekend (just wonderful for Atlanta United home match day traffic, I tell ya ...). Anyhow, for the most part, that's today's show. Also I've been super-swamped with work away from the show so forgive me the slack-off. :)

Sen. Raphael Warnock had time (before church, I suppose?) for the Sunday talk circuit and at one check-in - on Meet the Press - he was pressed by Kristen Welker about Georgia's support for incumbent President Joe Biden, former Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan's prospects as a potential third party candidate, plus Fani Willis' fate (he passed on commenting). Hear his optimistic spin on what appears to be an uphill slog (for now, anyway). Later in the show I'm revisiting his impassioned floor speech from last week on the floor of the US Senate calling for a negotiated ceasefire between Hamas and Israel. To my mind, it's the most earnest speech by a major American political figure giving equal angst and passion for the Palestinian people.

Before that, though, ya had to know 'Saturday Night Live' had the "cold open" awaiting Sen. Katie Britt after her ... dramatic ... response to the State of the Union address. Well they did, but it was journalist Jonathan M. Katz that had some colder water to throw on her use of an immigrant's story that had many in political circles talking.

Admit it; you watched the State of the Union address last night to see if President Joe Biden could still fog a mirror, and if so, for what percentage of the speech. Or maybe you tuned in just to see what Marjorie Taylor Greene would wear and do. Well, Biden was as sharp and energetic as we've been told he was behind closed doors, and Marge was ... Marge.

Hear me go over the highs and lows of last night's State of the Union. Incidentally, early polling suggests Biden won over a lot of skeptical voters.

Ooh, and bad news for Governor Brian Kemp's inclination to throw money at economic development as Rivian's icing their Georgia plant project (for now, they say).
