Samantha is a wife, a mom of 4, a speaker, and an author– all of which makes her the perfect person to teach us how to create margin no matter what our lives look like. She shares today about how margin has looked for her, having an eternal mindset, and how we can surrender control in all of it. I can’t wait for you to listen today AND order your copy of her book. We have Joey Young on the podcast this week, and trust me you do not want to miss this one. Joey is our International Missions Pastor at North Monroe, so he spends much of his time traveling with his wife Lori Young to multiple countries a year. What you may not know is that Joey didn’t always do international missions. Today Joey shares his story of always serving in the church, raising his family, working for and then running his family’s electrical company, and also how the Lord led him to surrender to the mission work he’s doing now. What you’ll hear in his story, though, is how Joey and Lori both live their lives on mission no matter where they are. Joey shares his insight on what he’s learned through his work, travel, and the way other cultures have deeply impacted him. I also got to ask him questions about what the American church needs to learn from our brothers and sisters in Christ all over the world– I cannot wait for you to hear his wisdom!

This week I got the honor to interview Tom Pryde, a pastor and the founder of Psalm 82 Initiative which is a ministry built on victim advocacy. Tom’s extensive wisdom and experience in this ministry has led him to organize his teaching into 4 specific patterns that are present in every abusive relationship as well as how those may show up. We also talk today about how we can all have tendencies towards selfishness and unhealthy patterns in any relationship, and how we can move towards health in marriage, friendship, and even the workplace. Tom also shares information with us on how we can walk alongside those who find themselves in an abusive situation, how we can love them, and how we can wisely and safely get them help.

Thank y'all for letting us take a month to commemorate the book and so many much needed topics of motherhood, but today we are back to your favorite Saltworks stories and we have a wonderful guest for you. Becky Flemister is on the podcast today, and Becky shares with us her story of really falling in love with reading Scripture. What her journey looked like and helpful tools she’s found along the way as well as why God’s Word is so imperative. It’s a refreshing and needed conversation. Becky also shares with us her personal battle with emotions and the healing God’s brought through medication. Becky also opens up about tragedies her family has walked through and how her mindset has shifted following. I can’t wait for you to hear her story, and overall, just her wisdom and encouragement towards the Word of God.

It’s the fourth and final week of March Motherhood Madness, where we have discussed topics from the book with a different host each week. To close out the month, we have Dr. Emily Jones on the podcast! Today, Emily and I talk about the repentance and repair that happens when we fail. We also distinguish between what is failing and what’s simply being human– something mom guilt often doesn’t make allowance for. And lastly, we talk about rest and why it’s important and what’s true about when we rest. As always, Emily’s insight and wisdom on the topics just bring so much hope and light to places we often carry guilt and defeat. So I pray that as you listen today, mom guilt melts away and you feel encouraged and empowered in areas we need to repair and repent– and that you have the peace to rest in areas we just need to let ourselves be human.

It’s week three of March Motherhood Madness! Last week we talked all about grace, compassion, and mom guilt. This week, your favorite co-host, Lindsay Stagg, is actually hosting, and I was very surprised with the topics and chapters she picked. Today, we are diving into the questions: can moms have fun? Can moms have rest? And most importantly, why is it that we struggle with these topics so deeply? Yall, Lindsay and I had such a sweet and fun conversation, and truthfully, I think we surprised ourselves with the direction it took. Things went deep! We talk about when to assess if it’s really survival mode, moments to allow ourselves to dream, and what is ultimately at the heart of our struggle with having dreams and interests as moms. I’m seriously so excited to share this conversation with you– we hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Welcome back to the Saltworks Podcast! Last week on launch day we covered all the behind the scenes of my new book, You’re Still a Good Mom: Motherhood Surrendered to the One Who Never Fails (Even When You Feel You Have). The rest of this month, however, we’ll be having different surprise hosts to dive into the topics written in the book– we’re lovingly calling it March Motherhood Madness. So today Laura Katzenmeyer is on the show not as guest but as HOST, and we are diving into grace and compassion and truth, which all combined are powerful tools to cut off mom guilt at the root. I know yall have loved Laura’s episodes in the past, and today is no different. I can’t wait to share the episode with you, and I pray it will be life-giving to you. If you feel encouraged by today’s episode, we encourage you to send it to a friend!

GUYS! Today is LAUNCH DAY for You’re Still a Good Mom: Motherhood Surrendered to the One WHo Never Fails (Even When You Feel You Have). I cannot believe the day is here, and so to commemorate this occasion, I am actually not hosting. My husband Andrew is host today and we are having a conversation that is honestly just real and vulnerable about the behind the scenes of this book. We talk about how it started, the doubts and fears I faced, the imposter syndrome I fought, how the book got published, and the mom guilt I needed to uproot to even write it. We laugh, we reminisce– it’s just a fun time today, y’all, and I hope you enjoy!

Friends, this episode is nothing short of life-giving. I have been so excited to share it with you. On the podcast today we have Kirby Johnson who is a licensed counselor and all around wise woman. As she shares with us her story of growing up with a transactional view of faith, we talk about overcoming legalism, letting go of shame, how to love and still set boundaries, and waiting seasons. What I love about Kirby is that she makes you feel so seen, brings real truth into the chat, and just makes me laugh. As we dive into these topics, Kirby also shares compassion and advice for those who have loved ones with addiction, answers questions around what boundaries actually are, and sheds light on some common misconceptions we might hold around topics such as waiting. Trust me, you do not want to miss this one!!

Oh my goodness, this episode. Lydia Walker is on the podcast today, and her story is a powerful testament to the goodness of God. From His faithfulness to keep pursuing us even when we choose to go astray to His providence in His plans for us– Lydia’s story brings hope in it all. If you don’t know Lydia, she is an open book about things that she’s walked, because she truly believes in being a part of breaking chains in others’ lives. Lydia grew up as the third child in a wonderful family, and though no one put pressure on her, began to feel the pressure of expectations to live up to an elusive identity. Chasing after things of this world, Lydia doesn’t shy away from sharing that part of her life but also how she could see evidence of Him being with her even then. We talk about identities, her call to ministry, her passion for discipleship, relationships, wisdom, scripture– I just can’t wait for you to hear it!
