  • Genesis 5, Moses 6 - Walk

In C. S. Lewis's Screwtape letters where a fictional devil gives instruction to his apprentice on how to tempt humans, the devil counsels, "Let him do anything but act. No amount of piety in his imagination and affections will harm us if we can keep it out of his will… The more often he feels without action, the less he will be able ever to act, and, in the long run, thee less he will be able to feel." In this week's episode we begin studying the powerful record of Enoch in search of foundation first steps to walking with God.

  • Genesis 3-4 - Sacrifice

There's a story in John Bunyon's Pilgrim's Progress about a man who rakes muck and dirt. When an angel appears and offers him a celestial crown the man cannot give up what he has grown so accustomed to doing even for such a great reward. This week on The Scripture Study Project we study three stories of sacrifice and learn, not only why it's important, but what the Lord would have us sacrifice, how to do in a "respect" able way, and what results will come once we do.

  • Genesis 1-2 - Creation

We're posting this episode, our study of Gen 1-2 and the accompanying chapters in the Pearl of Great Price, on January 1, 2022. It's a new year and, at least for me, new years bring a sense of possibility at what can (and what I want to) be created in the coming weeks and months. In this episode we study creation--how God does it, and how can we can do it to.

  • Moses 1, Abr 3 - Who?

Welcome to our fifth season of The Scripture Study Project. We are brimming with excitement to study the Old Testament with you, and this week we begin that study by diving into two great visions by two great prophets where they learn the answers to two great questions. Those questions, important for them, are critical for us as we navigate our way through this upcoming year and the new world we are all working to rebuild. Join us this week, and this year, as we discover powerful truths about the Lord, invest our own hearts and lives into our study, and connect with others as we learn together.

  • Sections 137-138 - Behold

In our final episode of 2021 we look through the feast of revelations at the end of the Doctrine & Covenants and look, not at what was revealed, but at how it was revealed and how we can receive more ourselves. Cap off a great year of study with us and head into the holidays with a personal study challenge.

  • Sections 135-136 - Gems

Joseph and Hyrum Smith were martyred. The Saints had to leave Nauvoo. Pioneers trekked and toiled to find a home. So many difficult experiences packed into such a short window of time, not unlike our own last few years. When we face those kinds of sanctifying experiences, what are we to do? In this episode we study some principles that lead us through purifying trials.

  • Sections 133-134: Appendix

In this, OUR 200th EPISODE, we add an "appendix" to the past four years. As we study this week we highlight some ideas that we have either learned over in the course of this podcast or else that have driven us to make it this far.

  • Sections 129-132 - Doctrine

With a block of scripture as doctrinally dense as our study this week we need some perspective in order navigate what can be some of the trickiest waters in the D&C. Join us this episode as we define doctrine and prepare our hearts to tackle some of the heaviest topics to date.

  • Sections 125-128 - Gladness

Despite running for his life, being forced into hiding, and being once again separated from friends and family, Joseph Smith wrote of a "voice of gladness" he heard in the gospel he believed in. In this episode we figure out how to have that kind of optimistic, "glad" perspective of ourselves and others.

  • Section 124 - Nauvoo

When the Saints got to Nauvoo it was a mosquito-infested swamp. Through the Lord's grace and their hard work they were able to transform it into something "beautiful". Just like they had with Zion. Just like they would with Salt Lake City. Just like the Lord did with the Prophet Joseph Smith himself. Just like the Lord does with us. Study with us in this episode to ask yourself how to work with the Lord to make something beautiful.
