If you like mom’s spaghetti, hip-hop, and/or “stan” Eminem then the 2008 film 8 Mile starring the rapper as a version of himself up against poverty (and… racism???) could be for you. After being discovered by Dr. Dre in the late-90s, Eminiem rose to fame as a controversial cultural figure who inarguably ruled MTV and the hip-hop airwaves during the early-2000s. Dubbed as a vanity project by some critics, the hosts review the melodramatic film based on his gritty life story. Despite the clunky script and strange blue-noir cinematography, the film features an Academy Award-winning cast and crew, including Kim Bassinger as Eminem’s hot (but kinda-troubled) mom. Unfortunately, as the second film in The Shiterion Collection’s Brittany Murphy Double Feature, the film doesn’t feature the iconic actress as prominently as remembered. To atone for this, the hosts will be back with another Brittany Murphy joint before the end of the season.
