Having to follow up from the breakout success of Clerks, Kevin Smith had a tall order on his hands. Or dare we say, a mall order on his hands? (Bad joke.) Smith's second feature was received poorly by critics, but its unique cinematic display of mall culture and the ultimate 90s time capsule he created leaves your hosts to wonder if this film is a great nostalgic blast from the past... or a true victory for dialogue driven films? Lets just say there's some disagreements. Snoochie boochies forever, though.

Despite its negative reviews and unfair comparisons to Rob Reiner’s Stand By Me, Now and Then (directed by Lesli Linka Glatter) was one of those great films that became a VHS sleepover classic. The film centers on four very different friends growing up in an Indiana suburb in the 1970s. The four girls bike around town, talk about boobs and boys, try to raise the dead, and have deep conversations about their parents. A banging soundtrack (that Stevie owns on vinyl) and a fantastic cast (feat. cameos from Brendan Fraser and Janeane Garofalo), the film deserves to be seen– preferably with a gaggle of girlfriends.

Mike Myers starred in the horror-comedy So I Married An Axe Murderer only a year after the smash hit Wayne's World was released. The film, about a man afraid of commitment who marries a woman suspected of murdering her past loves, should have been a classic. Instead, it did poorly at the box office and ended up as a cult classic. The Hitchcock-inspired flick originally starred Sharon Stone alongside Woody Allen. When SNL's Myers signed on, he took the liberty to add more gags, prosthetics, and accents which seemingly dissolve into a warm-up for Myers' Austin Powers characters developed soon after.

A body swap film with heavy metallic lipgloss and Mormon undertones, Wish Upon a Star featured a teenaged Katherine Heigl as the school hottie Alexia and the now-horror queen Danielle Harris as her grungy sister Hayley. After making a wish on a shooting star, frumpy Hayley finds herself in her sister’s body with the chance to win over the heart of heartthrob Kyle– who also happens to be Alexia’s boyfriend. A bit twisted with iconic looks and memorable lines, the influence of the film –which premiered in 1996 on the Disney Channel– can be seen in teenage films since (most obviously, 10 Things I Hate About You). The hosts discuss the band Moonpools & Caterpillars, body swap tropes, the Mormon values of the director and their undying love for the genre.

Wicky-wild indeed! On this episode, we expand our genre of Shiterion films to a "steampunk, hip-hop, western". This movie and it's Men In Black director, tried to ride the late 90s wave into the Willennium, but it ended up being left in the dust. Kevin Kline and Salma Hayek made for great cast mates, but when a movie relies slowly on gadgets and gizmos, there's bound to be a few screws loose. But hey!
