This film describes itself as a “cult classic”... but we have yet to see a Midnight Showing of For Richer Or Poorer anywhere. Tim Allen and Kirstie Alley (who both went on to sort of fade out of the limelight) play a wealthy couple in a Trump-esque world that escape the IRS by blending in with a rural Amish family. The hosts talk about their adoration for Kirstie Alley and their disdain for Tim Allen, who both star in a film with a flimsy but forgivable plot with a forever-sweaty Wayne Knight.

A film that has everything (the acting chops of Kevin Bacon fresh off films like Apollo 13 and Wild Things, a horror plot conjured from the mind of great supernatural writer Richard Matheson, and a script written by one of the most successful screenwriters of all time) falls flat as possibly the worst film ever to have a 70% Rotten Tomatoes score. The hosts explore why that might be. This film should have been riding the wave of The Sixth Sense (released a mere month before) but Stir of Echoes lives on at the bottom of the $1 VHS bin.

From the director that brought you Gremlins, the hosts present you with… pretty much Gremlins but with GI Joes. It’s difficult to make a children’s war film that doesn’t glorify violence and has an overarching peaceful message but that’s exactly what the Joe Dante-directed Small Soldiers does. Combining stop-motion, animation and live-action, the film addresses Native American civil liberties and Vietnam opposition protests, all while critiquing American consumerism. Can a film critique imperialism and consumerism while pedaling soldier toys to kids during its promotion?

Joon, a smoothie snorkeling expert, requires a caregiver and wins one in a bet. In comes Johnny Depp, fresh off his role as Edward Scissorhands, as Sam, a character who channels Buster Keaton style with a 90s bent. Obviously, they fall in love. Is this a manic pixie trope disguised as an emotional romance about isolation, or a true-to-life positive portrayal of autism at a time when little was known about the disorder?

The film follows a really pale hipster (Sean Patrick Flanery) who was discovered hiding in his grandparents basement after their deaths. A small town confronts their views on the world as they deal with Powder’s unique powers. The film also stars Jeff Goldblum as a hot teacher and Mary Steenburgen as a hot social worker.

Trigger Warning: Directed by a convicted sex offender, the film opened to protests and controversy.
