How and When a Health Journey REALLY Starts
Lens: This is for those who value inner strength as well as outer strength. Those who understand that there is a connection between the two.
Problem: We think we control when the journey starts. Example: January 1st, the day we join the gym, when the Peloton gets delivered, or when we feel "ready". We pat ourselves on the back for "starting", and we rest on our laurels.
Psychology: Things like talking about a goal, signing up for the membership, investing in the newest piece of home gym equipment - illicit a response in the brain. The response is that of actually making progress towards your goal and starting the process. This is incorrect. Inputting credit card info, signing up for a membership, or tightening the last screw on the handlebars are not indicators of starting the process.
So, when do we begin? The journey starts on days like this:
It's December 22, 5 AM - the dreaded iPhone the alarm goes off and it feels like you only slept for 17 minutes. On top of that, the baby didn't sleep well, it's cold outside, and we're just 3 days away from Christmas. The holidays are so close, it's easy to write this workout off. But if we do this, what is to stop us from writing off other "busy weeks' ' - Thanksgiving week, your birthday week, the last week of Q4 at work, your kids birthday week, 4th of July, your spouse's birthday, vacation week...
There are 100 reasons, some are even valid and very real, most are excuses. Either way - they count the same. Let me repeat that - either way, they count the same.
This is where the journey begins.
In that moment the modern day warrior either enters the Arena, or chooses the comfort of their 500 thread count sheets, $1500 mattress, and goose-down comforter. It's important to remember that it is indeed a choice, and the choice is the answer to whether or not we really started the journey.
When you are called into the Arena - how will you respond?
How would you LIKE to respond?
How can the modern day warrior arm oneself, so that they are PROUD of the response when the Arena calls?
