After a successful career as a corrections officer, then as the owner of a large trash business, Charlie was finally able to find his way into the light through a one eyed four-legged animal name Star. There is a bit of Charlie’s story in us all. Whether it’s a contentious relationship with our parents, addiction, compassion spirituality, or looking for love in all the wrong places, Charlie touches on so many basic human emotions that it is difficult to not feel connected to him. In this episode you will see how Charlie found salvation in the most unlikely form after a lifetime of suffering.

From a childhood in a neighborhood where the ending story could go either way, Mike Codella chose to take a career path to enforce the law rather than break it. Needing a change, Mike joined the NYPD in 1983 and never looked back. Truly believing in his life’s mission, to make a difference, he matriculated up the ladder in the dangerous world of undercover work in Alphabet City and Red Hook, Mike took to the street to leave them much safer than he left them. Working on high profile cases such as Eton Paetz to the infamous Son of Sam the true love for Law Enforcement shines through with every soft spoken word.
Now through his Brazillian Jui-Jitsu school, the Codella Academy to his book Alphaville 1988, Mike continues to make a difference in lives into his retirement.

Elvin Hernandez found a dream career that he had chased his whole life. Just as his dream was being fulfilled and the mountain was climbed, Elvin's life changed in the blink of an eye. In May of 2015, at the residence of a cousin, the dream would be crushed. After a police involved shooting, the darkness took over and snatched Elvin's career. Down the rabbit hole he went ultimately leaving him alone and at the end of his rope. It wasn't until he was able to see that there is beauty on the other side of Suffering that Elvin was able to emerge from the darkness. He is here to tell his story. His book has been written, but others in need may still have a few chapters to write, and learn from this touching story.
