The Tie Podcast

Back to The Tie after a big summer of amateur golf and a hot start to the fall with the Stanford Cardinal is Barclay Brown.

One of the top amateurs in England and the world, ranked 2nd and 5th, respectively, Barclay has already enjoyed much success as an Amateur being a 2 time all Pac-12 first team selection, being a key member of GB&I's 2021 Walker Cup team, and making the cut as an amateur in the 150th Open Championship at St. Andrews this past summer.

Today, rather than go deep on those experiences themselves, we use those as starting points to learn about Barclay's mindset, preparation, goals, leanings, and more. This is a great episode for a young competitor or even if you are just trying to get a bit better at the game, there is a lot to be learned from Barclay and his highly introspective approach to the game.

We hope you enjoy this chat!

Cheers,

This is the officially the 150th episode here at The Tie podcast, so to celebrate, we are going to do a MBM dedicated to nothing but the DERT. We here people love the DERT around here, so we are here to give you all what you want.

In this episode, we use the 4 letters of DERT as talking points of sorts to create a bit more conversation than usual to go a bit deeper on what we have been drinking, eating, reading, and thinking, but beyond that it is a standard DERT session, just a bit longer! Let us know how you enjoy this one!

From DJ to Charlie Woods, Nelly Korda, and golf course architecture, we have thoughts on all sorts of things for next year and we're here today to let you know what those are.

Thanks for being with us for this year's #mudballmondays. So much more to come next year!

One of the best interviews in Pro Golf, today we sit down with Maverick McNealy to hear all about his life as a golfer, as well as his life NOT as a golfer.  Maverick is one of the most thoughtful, detail oriented players you will ever come across which everyone will certainly gather from this episode. Especially if you are a young golfer trying to get better, this episode has tons of information on how to approach the entire package that it takes to improve. Maverick has gotten better every year on tour and there is no question as to why when you hear about how granular of an approach he takes to every aspect of performance as a golfer and person.

Outside of golf, Maverick has also gotten into flying and is currently pursuing his private pilots' license. I think everyone will really enjoy hearing how Maverick feels flying is contributing to his life as a golfer and providing for a nice balance to his day job.

To finish, we get into another of Maverick's passions, cooking. Always a favorite topic at The Tie, Maverick lets us in on some of his favorite meals to cook at home, weekly food prep and consumption on the road, and a few noteworthy pieces of commentary on the ever present Cava vs. Chipotle debate.

I hope everyone enjoys this episode and please do not hesitate to connect with us or our partners at the links below!

Gotta be off property, gotta be close, gotta be great.

Today we're chatting about some of our favorite places not at a golf course but near a golf course that really enhance the overall day of playing golf. Think a crab shack near Bandon Dunes, great sunrise hikes in Maui, and sublime sandwiches in Charlotte. Great stuff that you're thinking about all day, but not necessarily directly related to the golf. These are the little things we love about the game, and we hope this episode helps you all think about some of your favorites as well.

Happy holidays and thanks for doing us as always. We have 4 more episodes for you all before the end of the year so hang with us for more good stuff!

Fired up to be joined by Sam Williams from Cookie Jar Golf to discuss a budget golf trip through the heathland of England, A lot gets discussed with regard to golf in the UK, but we often only focus on the big name links courses and forgot how much great golf there is to be played just outside London, and on quite the budget.

Sam put together 2 trips for us. One of which was super cheap 5 course rota that realistically could be knocked out in just a few days, and the second was still easily under a $1500 budget and at some really high quality courses.

These are courses that you really should take note of as this trip can be done in 3 days or so and is very accessible from London. I think people often are hesitant to go over seas due to cost, time, and difficulty of travel, but this trip that Sam laid out for us is none of those things.

We hope you all enjoyed the first episode of this collaboration and we will have more to come both at The Tie and on the Cookie Jar Podcast in 2023. Be sure to check out some of their stuff as well as ours at the links below, and we'll see you soon!

Today on #MBM we are chatting golf courses, and more specifically, where we are wishing we get to play next year. Some public, some private, some local, some international, we have a fairly eclectic list of golf courses for you all that we, The Tie Guys, are hoping we get to take a spin around in 2023.

We of course chat the DERT(drinking, eating, reading, and thinking), and as always, there is a healthier than necessary amount of banter and BS.

Happy holidays and feel free to hit us up at the links below to tell us what your wishlist of golf courses is for next year!

Today we are joined by Joe Russo. Joe is a golf performance trainer with Joey D Golf in Jupiter, FL where he has quickly started working with PGATour players, recreational golfers, and all the while is growing a very impressive online presence through his page, @Stallionfitness.

Joe and I talk about how he decided to make the pivot into training full time, what its been like to grow his instagram presence so quickly, how he has taken to pivoting from a baseball background to golf, and a few things on what you can do to work on your own golf performance.

A lot of value to be had out of this one. Be sure to check Joe out on instagram, and don't be afraid to connect with us at the links below!

Every year, it gets cold. I know, it sucks. Golf is just better when its nice and warm, the body is loose, and the ball is flying far and sure. But, unfortunately there is a time and place to get out there and see what you've got when all of that goes out the window. While setting the clubs aside during the winter months is respectable, we don't recommend it. Rather, listen to today's podcast to hear a bit about what we think of cold weather golf and some of our tips and tricks to better enjoy the game when its cold and windy. (Yuck)

We start with the DERT before going into a 3 things each style discussion on cold weather golf and then finish with a little chat about the Australian Open that just wrapped up in Melbourne. As always, thanks for tuning in!
