In this final episode of our series on the nature of Christ’s  second coming, Jonah and Patrick look at the deep longing that burns in the souls of human beings for the arrival of a rescuer—one who will rid the world of all evil and darkness, establishing goodness once and for all. But they make the distinction between the great Day of Decision at the end of time when a New Heaven and a New Earth will arise, and the microcosmic battle taking place within each individual. Jonah and Patrick suggest that the battlefield in our times takes place in the realm of the human heart and soul and employs the armor and weaponry of spiritual warfare, not outer war. We are each familiar with the darker aspects of our own natures. But Christ is also in us, speaking his Word, lighting the Way. His example shows us that dying to ourselves and becoming new again is the most powerful spiritual weapon. Giving our life for the life of another becomes the ultimate expression of overcoming the adversary. In and through Christ, we become both rescued and rescuers.
