  • 6. Christmas Devotions and Traditions to Try

    Welcome to the kitchen table!

Christmas can be hard! Do you ever feel like you make all these plans for fun activities, crafts, or devotionals to do with you kids, and then none of it gets done? It can leave you feeling like a failure. In this week’s episode Bethany shares with every mom that this is just not true! We cannot measure ourselves by what we do, but how we do it. God isn’t worried about you completing a devotional book. He isn’t limited by how well or how poorly you believe you have fleshed out the fullness of Jesus' birth. This does not hold him back from showing how much he loves your child based on anything you do or fail to do. These were simply just short-term goals you had for this Christmas season.

What if we looked at Christmas with more of a long term vision? That we are pivoting our children back to Jesus in the everyday mundane things. That IS the Christmas story! In every moment, Jesus came for you! It is great to have short term goals in Christmas, but hold them loosely. We want to see the long-term vision of continual pivoting to point them to Jesus.

  • 5. God Hears Our Prayers

What does it mean to really pray for your child? We all know what prayer is and we know the power of prayer. But do we know how to effectively pray?

This week Bethany dives into what it means to pray for our children and the effect this can have on motherhood.

It is one thing to tell someone you will pray for them, but it's another thing to be a woman who defines her life by prayer.

How often are we actually turning to God in prayer? Too many times we tend to say “I got this God” and attempt to handle it ourselves.

Psalm 116: 1-2 reminds us that even in the smallest moment, God hears us. No matter what messy moment you are dealing with in  motherhood right now, God hears you and he wants to offer his help. We were never meant to tackle this alone.

Not only is God listening, but he wants to hear from you! You can grab Bethany’s free prayer guide here to learn more about praying effectively for your children.

  • 4. The Christmas Conversation of Grace

Welcome back to this week’s episode of, “When God Breaks Through”.

This week Bethany answers another fellow mama’s question.

Don’t forget you can send in your questions, as well. Just visit Bethany’s instagram and facebook page @bethanykimsey to send a message with your question.

One mom asked, “How do you do Christmas? How do you lead and have devotions that lead your children well? What is your perspective with all the craziness that Christmas can bring?”

Have you been good this year? Are you on Santa’s nice list? What is Santa bringing you this year?  Have you ever heard people ask these questions? It’s not that these are bad questions, however it could give children the wrong view. This kind of view could lead them to thinking that their performance determines their goodness.

It is important to remind our kids, it does not matter what you have done, it matters whose you are.

The  enemy tries to convince our children that their performance factors into the equation of their salvation. If he can convince them of that, then grace is lost.

Christmas is such a great time of year to instill the truths of the gospel in children. Through our actions, our Christmas traditions, and how we handle the whole Christmas season, children can be shown what Christmas is truly all about.

Don’t forget to follow Bethany on Instagram @bethanykimsey and check out her website https://bethanykimsey.com to share your perspectives on Christmas and what traditions your family has adopted to teach the gospel through the season!

We pray this Christmas season that children would learn that Jesus is the greatest gift they could ever receive.

Being a mom in the culture we live in is hard! As moms, be fierce in your prayer life and fierce in the way we pray for our children.

  • 3. How to Hold the Heart of Your Child

Welcome back to the kitchen table with Bethany Kimsey for this week's episode of When God Breaks Through.  This week Bethany answers another fellow mama’s question sent in via Instagram and Facebook.

Don’t forget you can send in your questions, as well. Just visit Bethany’s instagram and facebook page @bethanykimsey to send a message with your question.

Kimberly asked, “How do you have a good friendship with your children while at the same time carry the authoritative role? How do you balance the two?”

To answer this question, we have to answer some other pertinent questions:

How do we tend to the heart that was given to me?

How am I holding my child’s heart?

Am I holding it too tight?

Or have I dropped their heart?

Characteristics of disconnect to their heart include:

    • distance
    • avoidance
    • eye rolls

It is up to us to come before our children.

In our homes, we have a chief opportunity to display reconciliation and the Gospel in moments like these.   We are called to be ministers of reconciliation.

When we recognize we have a problem with a child and their hearts are not softly placed in our hands, our role as the more mature believer is to come to that child and humbly sit before them and say honestly, “I think there is a problem in our relationship. How have I wounded your heart? What has caused this riff between us?”

They may respond with “I’m fine.”  Maybe they aren’t ready to discuss yet.  They may need space to process, but we need to be  willing to wait and ready to discuss when they are ready. As mamas we want to get to the root of the problem, into the crevices of their hearts.

Bethany discusses in this episode the way we participate in holding our child’s heart through key conversations and communications, through prayer, and through constant humility.  This, in turn, brings friendship naturally because our children are assured their hearts are being tended too.

Listen to be encouraged and led into a beautiful mentoring conversation in our motherhood.

  • 2. How Do You Walk with Your Kids Towards Grateful Hearts

On this week’s Thanksgiving episode of When God Breaks Through, Bethany shares a listener’s question.

“How do I successfully help my children navigate the world’s culture of entitlement and how do you teach gratitude and speak into this area with Gospel conversations?”

Bethany has discovered three different areas where we can find the opposite of gratitude in our children’s lives.

    -Possessiveness

    -Selfishness

    -Entitlement

In parenting, we can identify each of these at certain times of growth in our children’s lives.  Each one steers Bethany in the right direction of how to speak into each of her eight children.

Addressing these three sinful nature highlight reels, Bethany reminds us that these are opportunities to bring the Gospel conversation to the attention of our children.

Through various age ranges, she explains how we can begin to see and notice and gracefully guide our children to experience freedom from selfishness, entitlement, and possessiveness.

Culturally, we see a child-centered approach which suggests that our child’s happiness is number one.  When we center our family on the happiness of our children, we feed into the sinful nature which says, “I am owed happiness, contentment, and comfort.”  Those things are not true in the Gospel.

Before we have these redemptive Gospel conversations with our children, we have to look inward and evaluate where we are discontent or are feeling entitled.

Bethany discusses the practical ways we can observe, confront without shame, and create opportunities to share the Good News from each  childhood stage.

  • 1. When You Feel Lost in Motherhood

Welcome to the kitchen table with Bethany Kimsey!

Have you ever walked away from an interaction with one of your children and thought, “I have NO IDEA what to do?” Motherhood can leave us floundering in our thoughts.

Sometimes we don’t know what to do with the situation that has presented itself.  It leaves us feeling befuddled.

Bethany Kimsey encourages us that we can find refuge and an invitation in Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.

We can call to Him even in the day to day, in the potty training, in the sleepless baby, in the mood swings of our teenagers, and God will answer.

Mama, He understands these great and hidden things.

He has given us a great task, and at times it can feel so daunting but I share how to step into the throne room and trust God’s invitation.
