United States President Donald Trump has a received a swift backlash from the medical fraternity after publicly questioning whether ultraviolet light and household disinfectant could be used to kill the coronavirus. His remarks followed a short presentation at the daily White House briefing by a scientist who provided anecdotal evidence about how sunlight and disinfectants like bleach or alcohol can kill the coronavirus on surfaces or in the air. This prompted the President to theorize about the possible benefits to humans. The University of KwaZulu-Natal in partnership with the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC), will conduct a joint survey investigating the impact of Covid-19 on healthcare workers who are on the frontline of the global fight against COVID-19. Across the world, with South Africa being no exception, many healthcare workers have been infected with the virus. UKZN and the HSRC seek to understand how the virus is affecting South African healthcare workers - both physically and emotionally. The Covid-19 pandemic and resulting lockdown has exposed weaknesses in many organisations' workforce management practices. This according to Managing Director of local software developer Sauce-code Graham Fry. Fry says most companies were completely unprepared to manage users in their homes. Nursing union, DENOSA, says government must continue to ensure that all health workers are provided with Personal Protective Equipment at all times as they are in the forefront of fighting the corona virus.
