As the country is dealing with the Corona virus pandemic, a lot of adjustments would have to be made by members of the public when it comes to funerals.The Covid-19 pandemic has dramatically changed the face of burials in the Free State. There will be no traditional practices allowed for the burial of a person who died from the virus in the Mangaung Metro.
Strict guidelines have been put in place for the safety of all parties involved in burials of people who have died.This includes funeral parlour workers, family members, municipal health services and health workers. Economists say Moody's decision to downgrade South Africa to junk status need not further affect the country's economy, as much of the damage has already been done. The credit rating agency has stripped South Africa of its bond grading, citing constraints on the government's finances and a weak economy as the reasons for the downgrade. The move has done a devastating blow to the country which has just started a 21-day lockdown in an effort to stop the rapid spread of the coronavirus. Naledi Ngcobo reports

Government says it will now look at ways to refine some of the measures put in place in a bid to contain the spread of COVID19 during the 21 day lock down. South Africans are officially on a lock down, but it seems some of the plans by government to keep everyone at home were not effective in some area, despite the deployment of the South African National Defence Force . Public transportation was also met with challenges. An inter-ministerial committee briefed the media in Pretoria last night. The infection rate stands at One-Thousand-One-Hundred and Seventy with one death recorded. Phumzile Mlangeni has more details .....

The South African National Editors' Forum, SANEF, has called on all media organisations to make sure their staff have the relevant protective gear as the country battles to contain the spread of the coronavirus. A journalist at the SABC's Kimberly office in the Northern Cape tested positive for the COVID19 infection. SANEF says journalists and media workers are among the essential staff listed on government's lock down regulations and must be cautious when out reporting....

Deputy police minister Cassel Mathale has had harsh words against the Limpopo police management for police's failure to enforce the Covid-19 public gathering regulations during the funeral service of police officer in Thohoyandou. Hundreds of mourners, had attended the funeral service of the slain Warrant Officer Stanley Mudau. Mudau was stabbed to death allegedly by a rape suspect whom he had wanted to arrest on Sunday last week. The mourners at the deceased's residence were not wearing masks or given disinfectants and water to wash their hands. A visibly irritated Mathale urged police led by Acting Deputy Provincial Commissioner Jacob Ramokolo to enforce the regulations as outlined by President Cyril Ramaphosa without fear or favour.
