We asked for your thoughts on the concept of the “grail watch” and our recent editorial on the subject, and you had a lot to say. In this conversation we take an even deeper dive into how the idea of a grail watch guides and informs our collecting, and we react to plenty of listener feedback. It turns out that there are a lot of ways that you can properly classify a “grail,” from hypothetical watches that may or not exist, to watches that have a particular set of specs, and, of course, all manner of vintage Rolex and rare, handcrafted, luxury watches. We also talk about how our ideas of a grail watch can change over time (and how that’s part of being an engaged collector) and the role that marketing plays (or doesn’t play) in pointing us toward a grail.
